Mobil 1? How about Amsoil?

Just read the thread about Mobil 1.

I opted to go with the Amsoil 20W50.
Service Manager at the shop who did my Level 2 service advised that I go with the recommended BMW brands, but I defered to the wisdom that worked with my Vintage Japanese mentors.

Has been working great thus far, and I'd like to think that it's more than my superstitious wanting to believe in the virtues of an expensive Snake Oil.

Anyone have any opinions to weigh in with about Amsoil?

Why depend on others? Simply keep about a babyfood jar full of unused Amsoil with the same batch number and when you get to the end of the change interval, get a similar-size sample while draining. Send both samples off to Lubriport for assay. The unused one for the baseline is free. It'll only cost you about $10 to KNOW what happens to Amsoil in YOUR bike.

I have no association with Lubriport. I just use them for all my oil assays. Be sure to tell Floyd you're in a BMW club to get a discount.

For years Amsoil has had the reputation of snake oil because of its marketing system. However, the recent tests by MCN made it look very good.
