I bought my 93 GSPD with around 37,000 miles and have added about 10,000. After reading KEEPemFLYING in ON I'm thinking its time for the change.
Interesting photo he added-I'm surprised that the U-joints dont give out.
It looks a bit intimidating and...well, if you dont get this on right....the whole thing could fall off! But he does give good instructions.
I'm curious what happens when one does actually break while you're riding...does it make a (not so)funny noise or does it lock up the rear wheel??

Are you asking about your final drive or U-joint? The FD should be fine, but the U-joint (if OEM) has the if-or-when question hanging over it.

The paralever on my R1100RS broke at 157k miles. The front u-joint siezed and exploded. The only damage was that I had to buy a new driveshaft. I was told that it was possible for the swingarm casting to be damaged in this situation as well.

The experience was an immediate loss of power, and the bike sounded like it had a box of rocks in it when rolling it around.

Sorry I should've been more specific...I meant the U joint!

"The experience was an immediate loss of power, and the bike sounded like it had a box of rocks in it when rolling it around."

So..at least it was still able to roll.
