I must be blind.
I can't find warranty information currently listed anywhere on the BWM Motorcycles web site (www.bmwmotorcycles.com) for the '08 R1200RT.
I believe my '07 R1200RT has a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty.
Also, on the web site the R1200RT-P shows a 39 month, 60,000 mile warranty. Is this something new for '08, or was this always the case for the RT-P?

Probably as my best guess. My new '07 GSA came with same as yours, 3 year, 36 months and I added the 7 year plan, unlimited miles:). I usually do near a 100K on all my Beemers and the three year plan is never enough. It pays for itself, the first major warranty the bike needs, beyond 36K. I've had many that needed it too and I did not have the extended warranty on those bikes:(. Do now!Randy13233:usa

Excuse my ignorance, but can you elaborate a little regarding the extended warranty you purchased.
Was that a BMW extended warranty or a generic, third-party insurance policy/warranty? Must this warranty be purchase when the bike is new or can it be purchased sometime before the factory warranty expires?
Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,
Can you also give a hint as to what it cost??? I bought an extended warranty for my '07 Goldwing that took it to 7 years unlimited mileage for $425 from the dealer. This was a Honda warranty, not an aftermarket one.
When I bought my '07 GS, I asked and it was $1400 for the same coverage. I was told that the manufacturer bases the cost on how many times they have to pay off on the extended warranty. Guess the manufacturer knows how dependable their bikes are. :dunno
Thanks, Jeff

It's far more likely you've been provided detailed warranty information in paperwork that came with your bike than it is that all the details will be posted on the Internet.

I didn't mean to confuse the issue: I know my '07 R1200RT has a 5-year/36,000 mile warranty. This information is in my owner's manual and it was listed on the web site when that model year's specifications were listed there.
What I do find curious is that on the current BMW web site the '08 R1200RT does NOT have any warranty information listed at all; yet the '08 R1200RT-P listed there shows a 39 month/60,000 mile warranty.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.I'm not the one posting about the extended warranty - but BMW doesn't offer an extended warranty for the bikes - at least last time I checked. Most dealer do have one they'll offer. You should note that markup on extended warranties are typically 50% - so you have some dickering room with a dealer if you decide to purchase one.

You might want to doublecheck that. My 07 R1200RT has a 3/36K warranty - as does my 07 F800ST.

My 07RT came with 3 years /36,000 miles. I bought an aftermarket warranty that took me out to 6 years unlimited milage. The dealer wanted $975 I told him $650 or I wasn't buying the bike. Got it for $650. Same deal on the 600 mile service. Free or no purchase.

Sorry, the above 5-year/36,000 mile info was a typo -- I meant 3-year/36,000.
However, I still find it interesting that the Police/Authority R1200RT-P shows a 39 month/60,000 warranty on the web site. And, the civilian R1200RT shows NO warranty info at all.
I spoke with one BMW dealership about an extended warranty (third-party) and was quoted $1,995 for an additional 4-years. Yikes!!!

My 2006 R1200RT-P has a 39/60k warranty. The 2005/6 R1150RT-P warranty was 39 months, unlimited miles to the original purchaser.

I believe the reason that the reason for the RT-P warranty is so that BMW can make a lower over-all total cost package to the PDs. They don't buy on purchase price alone. I read somewhere that the CHP, for example, pay a total cost of $5k for an RT-P (might be out of date now), considering the purchase price, routine service costs and resale back to BMW at the end of a 60k mile period.

7 year plan cost me 900$ extra, but was quoted at 1295$ at the beginning of our talks. I suppose I could have done a little better, as I know these plans are marked up and are profit makers for dealers. If you know BMW's well, you also know that one dealer visit for warranty after 36000 miles will exceed this 900$ rather quickly, so I am not too damaged by the price. I usually keep my Beemers for 7-8 years and exceed 100K, or very nearly do every time. These new bikes are so high tech, a part or two can add to thousands of dollars in a blink of an eye. I felt it money well spent. It is an aftermarket company based in Palo Alto,CA that got me and the GSA and have been doing BMW business for years. Unlimited miles is what I like:), because I usually do just that...I wish I had this on my last BMW, K1200LT that needed it...Randy13233

The H-D Police motorcycles come with a 3-year/unlimited mileage warranty. I believe BMW is just trying to be competitive.

Here in the midwest, where I was the senior Police Motor Officer for my department from 2000 thru 2006, I was involved in the acquisition of a new H-D RoadKing every year.
Warranty was 'negotiable' and was used as leverage by dealers to win the bid.
Had nothing to do with a bike of any greater reliability than a civilian H-D model.
P.S. (I can't believe I used the terms "H-D" and "reliability" in the same sentence. After 56,000 miles on 7 different models, don't try selling H-D reliability to me - that dog won't hunt)
