I ordered an 08 RT on Saturday and have a few weeks before it comes into the dealer.

Anyone have some good shelving or mounting solutions they can share for the new RT? Right now it's looking like I'll have my Zumo and a Valentine radar detector to mount. I currently have the BMR Products shelf on my 1150RT and have been very pleased with it. BMR has a shelf made for the 1200RT only it's got this pointed top to follow along the pointed dash board. I'm just wondering if it's going to look funny due to the angular sides.

I realize I can mount stuff to the handle bars with something like RAM, however I prefer keeping stuff static on some kind of shelf. Just wondering if someone has a better mousetrap for mounting.

Here is a shot of the BMR shelf system shown with a left arm for a satellite radio. You can add a right arm as well. http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=5221&stc=1&d=1139971266

No one does it more ambitiously than Rob Nye

The guy that created that shelf personally owns a K1200GT and had created it for his own GT. He currently sells them to Cycle Gadgets though unfortunately he seems to have no interest in creating one for an RT or any other models.. Otherwise a real nice set up for sure.

Paul,
That's a very cool set up. Is that your RT? Is that shelf commercially available? And whats up with duel GPS's on that bike?

Look at the Migsel shelf, attaches with three existing screws, no cutting or drilling required. I've used one with a GPS and radar for almost 12,000 miles without incident. Some complain about vibration with the Migsel, but it has never bothered me.

That is the Rob Nye interplanetary exploration cycle. I think someone told me that he sometimes says "Beemer me up"!

Rob has some gear, doesn't he? He is a serious Iron Butt rider. Coolness!

I have this one. Works great and you can mount multiple RAM rail mounts on it. It's VERY solid.

Saw that one just the other day as I just got my 2610 in today!!! Yeah! Now I get to figure out the mounting solution. The only problem I saw with this is that it appears you have to drill two holes in the dash...is that true? It appears to re-use the existing bolt holes under the windshield so those are good....

I've seen the Migsel as well and it appears to only re-use existing holes but have heard through different forum threads of vibration issues so I'm still not sure on that one...

Yes, you have to drill two holes in the plastic dash cover for the Touratech mount, but that's what gives it the rock solid stability that you won't get from the Migsel. It's an easy operation since they give you a drilling template.

I looked at all of them and concluded that the gadget guy makes the best mount although a bit pricey. It reinforces the the attachment point without drilling holes and allows room for other stuff. Look at http://www.gadgetguy.net

I purchased a RCU shelf from A&S Cycles last summer. But it had so much vibration I couldn't read the display. But after seeing the Co-Pilot self from BMR I decided I could make my own. I already had some aluminum laying around so this is what I came up with:

The addition of the brackets on the sides make it very stable with very little vibration, plus now I also have the capability to hang more stuff off the sides.

No drilling required.

I forgot about Gadget Guy. For some reason I kept thinking about Cycle Gadgets though both present a good mousetrap.

Love the shelf mcrider2 made. Very nice !!! You should start a business with that set up.

I ended up going back and ordering BMR at least for now and it should work fine especially with the special housing and shelf for the Valentine. Won't know how it will look until it gets mounted to my new 08. I'm still waiting for at least another few weeks. Picture below is off the BMR website.

I had a Migsel, too much vibration for me with two things attached. I have gone to the BMR and love it. The pointy top won't look that way when you put the mount on it. I have my 276 C there, radar detector on the left with the medium shelf and will by next week have the Sirius Sportster on the satellite radio bracket. The thing is built like a brick you know what. So easy to put on, I could do it. Brett of BMR has been a great help too. When I get it all farkled up I will post pictures.

I built this one my self. The shelf I got from Cycle gadgets blocked out all the idiot lights. This is cut from 1/4 inch lexan. I used a rotozip to cut it. I added the bracing to it to help stabilize my video camera.

That is a brilliant solution, I have the RCU and have to lean back at times...and I got some Lexan:idea

Interesting solution shown above. Other than the camera on the top shelf, what is the devise to the left of the camera? Radar detector? What's the devise to the right side of the dash? Is that some kind of satellite radio? Kind of cool if those are presets.

Yes that is a radar detector on the left of the camera, and an XM Sat radio mounter on the right. The video camera can be removed and replaced with a waterproof digital camera that will also take video. If anyone is interested the waterproof (to 15feet with the lense open) camera is a Olympus 725 SW. I bought the camera in Thailand last year. I understand they are available in the US now. Ron
