May be late in noticing, but the BMW NA website has the HP sport listed.

Don't get me wrong, I lust for one (I mean really lust for one).

But at $26,000 plus you don't get a ton more over the stock 1200s. Weighs 20 lbs less and produces 8 more horse power.

Does anyone know if these will be available or already available in the states?

Reservation/deposits can be made for an HP2 Sport. Believe this will be essentially the way one can get one versus just seeing it on a dealer floor. An HP2 Enduro lesson. First U.S. deliveries are due around the first of April according to my dealer.

It would be difficult to "logically" justify an HP2 Sport, but for some, the killer appearance, with the CF bits, the sound, the thoughtfulness throughout, its endurance racing pedigree, etc. will offer enough "emotion" to seek one. IMO, this is a very sweet bike, one that will be rarely seen, one offering performance beyond the abilities of most astride it. The bike made an appearance at some of the Cycle Shows and reports are it is incredible in person.

The video here is excellent as the Sport circles a track in Spain...

Roughly $10K premium for 8 hp and a fancy paint job...I don't think so.

I would think a decent exhaust and K&N filter would get you that for a bunch less.

I would like a few more ponies out of my R1200S, but not at that price. I paid less than $10K for a new ZX10R putting out 160+ hp bone stock. Two bikes for the price of one makes a lot more sense.

To be sure, the HP2 Sport is more than just "8HP and a fancy paint job". Just read the reviews. Related to your observation, one could pick up two excellent bikes for the price of an R1200S as well. It's all relative.

I just sat on one at the Chicago IMS. It seemed really nice and of course was just beautiful, but I have to wonder: for the money, why would you choose one over a Ducati 1098S or, for that matter, even a Buell 1125R?:dunno

For the money, sure, if racing specs are what matter most. For the majority, the HP2 Sport will not pull all the strings. For a few, it pulls all the strings... I ride a 1098s but you know, I'd rather take an HP2 Sport to the track as a "challenged" bike versus the Duc.

Get a kick out of the Road King here, and many ask the same kind of question... Why buy an H-D versus a higher performing, less expensive metric.

I saw it in person yesterday at the IMS in Chicago.

Very cool, if I had the means, I'd find one. In my opinion, way cooler than most other "s" bikes out there.

However, it did'nt get my "best in show" this year....I have to say it was the Benelli's that I could stop looking at.

With that said, it was close to the low temperature on Pluto in Chicag yesterday, and looking at cycles, just made me and the wife want to go ride, and realize that it was still a couple months away.
