Found a 1994 R1100RS with 34,000 miles. Appears to be in real good shape. I haven't been down to see it yet; however, I think I am going to go check it out this weekend. Can anyone give me their thoughts on this model of that age? Anything special to look out for? Any plus or minus about the model in that year? They are asking $3995. Any thoughts would be appreciated....

BTW, I have a '94 RS. It has been a great bike for me -- it has nearly 200k miles on it. Although, it has required some work in the last 50k miles.

You should verify what edition transmission is in it. The original transmissions were the "noisy in neutral" version. They were apparently robust, but a lot of people complained about them, they rattled while in neutral with the clutch released. The second generation trannies were quiet in neutral but popped out of gear. If you don't have an original, you want a 1997 or later transmission.

Don't worry about the tranny tattling in neutral, TADT. The noisy ones actually shift better than the factory "fixed" quite ones.

However, some '94 trannies begin to go bad anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 miles. One symptom of a failing '94 tranny is that it will sometimes jump out of third gear under hard acceleration. At first, it feels almost like momentary clutch slip but gradually gets worse.

I would check the tranny serial number to verify if it is original or replaced and I would ride the bike, paying particular attention to how it performs under third gear acceleration.

I'm the second owner of a 94 1100 RS. I've had the bike over 10 years and it has about 50,000 miles. Original trans still in it with no problems. I replaced the clutch myself, seemed the original clutch gave up pretty quick. Brake master cylinder on handle bar started leaking at 20,000, replaced it. Wheels are somewhat soft and fragile, if I recall correctly a lot of first owners had theirs replaced under warrenty. Hitting potholes bent the wheels. I havn't had that problem as I run the tire inflation at max inflation for twoup with full luggage. Shocks are generally shot at about 30,000 miles. Overall a good bike.
