I replaced the starter on my/5with a used one(first one cracked housing). Now if the bike doesn`t start immediately,it acts as if the solenoid isn`t engaging.I tried to switch solenoids from old to new,but the arm that goes into the starter is different length. Is there a way to test the solenoid,or should I just transfer old starter into new housing?TIA,Geronimo

A solenoid is nothing but a big coil with an iron center. It shouldn't show any resistence, it should show continuity.
If you hear the starter wining/turning, then the solenoid isn't engaging, bad. If it's clicking or tapping/snapping loud, then the starter/solenoid is engaging just not enough "juice" to keep it engaged and to turn the motor over, check battery juice. Also if the armature is bad , it won't turn the motor.

I should have been more specific. It turns over for 2-3seconds,then just whines like the solenoid isn`t making contact.when I wait 30 seconds or so,it will do the same thing.Batteryor solenoid? TIA

Do you have a multimeter? Test the voltage on your battery while it's just sitting. Then, see what it's voltage changes to when you crank the starter.
Any time you start doing electrical diagnosis, step one is always the same: "Ensure the battery is fully charged and in good working order".
A multimeter is the basic tool for taking measurements to diagnose electrical issues and you really need to have one.
