Hello all,
Can any of you other hardy souls tell me if the temp gauge on the dash of the "GS works below 14'???? It usually flashes and tells me the temp, but today, with the outside temp right at 6', it started counting down and when it reached 14', it simply did nothing. No snowflake, no nothing. Once I re-entered the garage (heated) it worked as normal. Could it be that BMW doesn't want us to ride when it's a little cold?
Thanks, Jeff

For the computer on my R1200R, I have to push the button a second time to resume normal function of the display when it is below 37F or so, the threshold for flashing. My understanding is the flashing is a warning for conditions favorable to the formation of black ice on road surfaces.

FredRydr,
Yeah, if the temp is below about 37', the temp locks onto the display and to get to the other functions, you have to press the button. But, I was asking if it worked at all below 14'. Mine doesn't show any temp and the "dedicated" temp position just shows four dashes instead of a temp. Thought it might be broken, but maybe it's just me? Friends say it should just flash IDIOT IDIOT IDIOT and let it go at that!!!
Safe riding to ya,
Jeff

I believe 14 or 15 degress was its limit.
Maybe someone is trying to tell us something. :dunno

Our temp gauges are actually Celcius thermometers that read in increments of 1/2 deg C and then do an awkward Fahrenheit conversion. For example, when it's 15 deg C out, our gauges read "59.0" deg F. If the temp goes up or down 1/2 deg C, our gauges read "58.1" or "59.9". But they can never read "59.5" or "58.5". (0.5 deg C gets translated to 0.9 deg F)
As it happens, 14F is exactly -10C, so maybe that's the nice round number where they decided it's time for Saurbraten and Gluhwien (sp?) by the fireplace.
Cheers, Tom

As a related question, what's the consensus on the accuracy of the temp gauge?

Now you've done it. May as well have asked about oil. ;)
I can only speak for mine - it works just fine, maybe a degree off but that's about it. I know many others have had a different experience.

Hey,
Don't know about the rest, but when I pass one of those "temp" and "time" signs, my temp gauge is usually right on. I have seen maybe a dozen of them and my gauge is right with them. While in the heated garage, it matches my thermostat exactly, so I would say mine is pretty darn accurate.
