Hello, all-
I bought a used R1150GS last year. It came with a Corbin seat installed. I do have the original seat, though the mounting hardware is currently on the Corbin.
With the Corbin, I want to slide back, but I run into a very hard frame at the rear of the rider's saddle- right on my tailbone.
I'm 6'3", with a 32" inseam, a 38/39" sleeve length, and about 350 lbs. Good looking lad, too...
I have imagined that an R1150GSA seat might be more to my liking- it appears that one could slide back and forth a little more in the saddle, since it seems to be less "stepped." Passenger accomodations are secondary to rider comfort, as the vast majority of my miles will be solo.
HOWEVER, I've seen several threads on the various message boards where folks wanted to swap their GSA seats in for a "standard" GS seat. I also saw one poster who said one of the big names in aftermarket saddles advised him to get his GSA set up to accept an aftermarket "standard" GS seat. I've yet to see someone looking to put a GSA seat on their standard GS.
Can anyone explain why so many GSA folks are looking to go to a GS seat? Or why the reverse does not seem to be true?
Long-term, I anticipate I'll end up with a Russell Day-Long. I had a custom saddle on my last bike, and am looking forward to another...
I'd just hate to get a custom GS saddle only to find that I really should have gotten a GSA saddle, or vice versa.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks, -UncleHowie
