Turn signal stalk question

I have a 1978 R100/7 and I bought an S fairing. This requires the use of a longer turn signal stalk. My question is, how much longer. I am going to try and modify the existing ones to save time and money on trying to find the longer ones.

The stalks on my R90 w/ S fairing are 5-3/4 inches long. That is end-to-end. I didn't take them off to measure, which is why I claim +/- 1/8 inch, but I've had them off several times and am pretty familiar with the fit.

My short stalk is in my hand and measures 5 1/4 inches. The tube part alone is 2 inches long and extends from the bracket part 1 1/4 inches. Try measuring just the tubular part and its extension. That should give me the answer.

I tried doing a little cut and fit job and found this is not going to be easy. Anybody have a used pair of longer stalks?
