Hi everyone,
I have moved from an RT to a new GS. At 6'1" with a 31" inseam, I sit pretty high in the saddle on the GS and have the saddle in the high position. I know the GS is not an RT and will never be an RT when it comes to turbulent noisy air. Having read a gizillion threads on various aftermarket options to the stock windshield, I have come away with several thoughts:
1. I do not want a giant shield, such as the Aeroflow, even though this shield has received many positive reviews. I bought the bike for an intended Alaska trip and I want something less massive for use in the dirt and for aesthestic reasons.
2. Many folks have reported good improvement using the GSA "winglets" on a GS, and they are only about $60 for a pair.
3. Most of the folks using the ADV winglets also use an aftermarket shield, such as the Givi. Some folks like the Givi, others are not so happy.
4. I have read and heard that installing the larger GSA shield on the GS along with the GSA winglets offers vastly improved wind, noise and turbulence protection. A dealer salesperson that I respect who owns an RT told me that the GSA is about %80 on an RT in resolving the above issues (the GSA also includes a wider tank providing additional protection).
5. Cee Bailey now sells their "adventure" version of the GSA setup, including their own winglets. Here is a link: http://www.ceebaileys.com/bmw/1200gsepws.html
The Cee Bailey price is about $380, which, I am told is about half the price of "upgrading" the GS with a GSA shield and BMW winglets. Has anyone about my size tried the new Cee Bailey adventure system?
Thanks. Dean
