Have a 2004 r1150rt and thinking about a new exhaust. Looking at two brothers and remus. Remus is twice the price, is it worth it. Would like a bit more sound as well as improved performance. Any thoughts

Why not Ztechnik, their exhaust do not void your warranty, removable noise baffle, you loose approx. 11 lb. of weight and eliminate the cat.
I was tempted to put one one my RS during Bike Week in Daytona this year. I even got to hear the sound of the muffler with and without the baffle, it dos get significantlt louder when the baffle is out, but it's a healthy sound for sure. For $700, it seems like a good investment, but I went with Wilbers shocks instead.

Someone please explain to me how you eliminate the catalytic converter without voiding the warranty. Modifying anything in the intake or exhaust tracts is considered "tampering." Of course, there can be no argument that cat removal violates federal law, as if anyone cared.

Check the ZTeknik web pile. They say that they pipes were developed in conjunction with BMW and do not void the warranty.
Wild, huh?

I am most certain of it.
I was really tempted during Daytona Bike Week to have BMW Daytona to install the Ztechnik exhaust on my R1150RS, which is still under warranty. They confirmed to me that the Ztechnik exhaust will not void my existing warranty.

NObody told me about the void of the warranty. Will have to check this out since the bike only has 1200 miles on it and I still have 3years 11 months warranty.

I am pretty sure BMW NA will not warranty your bike if any other aftermarket exhaust was put onto your 04 RT.. unless you swap back the original exhaust before taking your RT to the dealer.

Good Idea. Check it out with your dealer...and read your warranty booklet carefully rather than trusting what someone said Ztecknik "told" him. I don't doubt he was told that, but I wouldn't put any faith in it unless I saw it in an official Ztecknik warranty statement - something you could hold their feet to the fire with. Most aftermarket exhausts void the manufacturer's warranty on the emissions system, at a minimum.

I have heard the two bros. system is not good. There are problems with loud backfiring, and poor customer service. I checked out the remus and laser systems, and liked the sound and quility of the laser. There is a problem with the warranty though, you have to put the stock exhaust on if you have any dealer related issues. Hope this helps.

I spoke with my service rep and he said he has never seen a case where a warranty claim was denied because of an aftermarket exhaust system. Am still trying to decide the type to put on the bike. I know my dealer pushes the remus. Thanks for the helpful replies.

This is sticky.
Alter your BMW in any way, and expect the unexpected from your local stealership..... BMW seems to be quick to look for ANY excuse to deny you warranty coverage. They are audited by the likes of the "Soup Nazi," seeking detailed reasons why warranty work was performed on any given bike.
Granted, if it's an obvious flaw of workmanship or mechanical failure, BMW will be quick to remedy the problem before it gains any press...... BUT do something like alter your exhaust, and expect resistance on the part of both the service manager and local rep'.
It is said that Z-Technik "bought" their right to be supported by BMW. It is no better, and certainly no worst than any other system out there. Expect no performance gains, expect instead improved mid-range torque.... the Z-Technik system 'moves' the torque curve to a more user friendly power curve.
Though nothing is made specifically for BMW by Super Trapp, I'm running a Remus "race" cat' eliminator, and a Super Trapp can with internal disks (14 w/open "race" end-cap). My horsepower was increased by about 4 horsies, but my torque curve shoots right up to it's max (72 ft.lbs.) immediately, and stays flat all the way to max' power. It's really quite amazing..... and it wasn't anticipated.
Staintune is about the best out there, but the quietest as well.
Remus is a very high quality product, and can be had in a variety of sound levels.
Two Brothers is raspy around town, and not viewed as a quality product by the discerning eye of the typical BMW owner.
Laser seems to have done their homework for the performance oriented.....
Z-Technik paid the big bucks to have BMW's support, but the system for the Roadster sounds like flatulance.....
All said & done, if the failure on your bike to be covered by warranty is not a direct result of your after-market exhaust, you CAN NOT BE DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE! There are laws in place to protect you. BUT..... BMW will in fact initially deny you coverage, and you'll hafta take it to court (possibly).
And YES.... I know somebody who had a Staintune pre-chamber cat' eliminator with a factory muffler. He had carbon build-up and burned a valve..... and A&S of Roseville California said that they would NOT cover him. They broke it down though, and claimed that as a courtesy, they would cover it anyway...... but they gave him significant grief before taking care of BMW's design flaw.....

The Laser pipes make a great improvement on the R1100S, sound and performance are noticable. I expected the same results on my R1100rt, but this was not the case. The mototronic must be taken apart[not an easy operation] and the Laser chip is very much subject to failure caused by the slightest amount of static electricity. I could find no mechanics willing to do the work so had to go it alone. I have yet to get it to work and ruined two Chips. The sound is superb but be ready for a frustrating time if you decide to go with this system. The weight savings are also a plus to be considered. Hope this helps!

Hi Pat! :wave
Where ya been?
Hi ya Dave... Mr & Mrs!
Been on the R1150R.site...... something's amiss, it's been down for a day now.
HEY! I just got my shocks back from Bruno's in Canada. I sent him my factory Showa shocks from off the 1150 Roadster, and he rebuilt/converted them to gas charged rebuildables..... shortened 'em too!
What with 50,000 miles on the little Black Beak, and a second set of shocks getting tired, I thought.... Why not? So I had them shortened by a half inch!
Anxious to see if my 5' 2"ness can reach the ground any easier; more importantly will I drag anything, will the handling improve, will I be able to out-run a Japanese 600cc through the foothills of California?
:brow yeah right.....
(gotta go back to work ((lunch))
