Are some tires better than others for surviving a summer in Las Vegas? I've been running Z6s on my roadster, which seem pretty solid (8k on a rear), but I'm concerned about tread life at 115F+.

There are soft tires and harder tires. Z6s are somewhere on the soft side of middle. ME 880s are on the harder side of the middle.

My experience is that in cold weather - winter in Kansas - softer tires are reassuring since both the tires and pavement stay rather cold. My experience in warm weather - Big Bend in the summer - is I like the ME880s a lot. They stick fine and wear longer.

I am more tolerant than the "I want the stickiest tire I can get" guys but not nearly as tolerant as the "Dunlop K491s are perfect" guys.

No problem. You won't be riding when it's 115?, trust me. Especially your first summer here.

I'm a big Michelin fan, and I've had no problems with there tires here. Pilot Roads on my K75 and Ducati Monster, Anakkees on my F650, and Mac 50's on my Scrambler and R75/5.
According to my son, who attended MMI in Phoenix, the abrasive material they used in their streets would eat a set of "regular" sport tires in a summer. But our streets are smooth like babie's bottoms.

The good news is that your tires pretty much stay up to temperature, but I've never noticed any accelerated wear between here and Provo, UT. and Denver, CO. where I've lived an ride regularly.

I live/ride 150 miles south of vegas (AZ) where the summer temps hit 120 on a regular basis. ME 880's have been excellent for the last 60K (as per Mr Glaves comments) on a couple different bikes. Usually leave here beginning of July for extended tour encompassing desert and mountain roads and have been very satisified with this tire.:whistle
