My wife and I spent a few hours yesterday evening at the annual bike show here in Calgary. The BMW display was a bit disappointing given the absence of the new F800GS and F650GS. I really was looking forward to seeing them and trying them on for size. I talked to the rep and he said they are not expected in Canada until September as 2009 models :cry Somthing to do with limited production numbers and this not being the biggest market priority for them. Just as well perhaps as it may have saved me from doing something foolish like buying one. Still it would have been nice of them to have brought one in for display. I did have another good look at the K1200GT, damn I like that machine, but having just bought a new truck this year, I won't be putting my money down on one for a little while yet. My RS still has lots of miles left in her anyway and I still really enjoy riding it. But that GT shore is purdy:blush

My wife however did not escape the lure of shiny metal and paint. She was wanting to get a bike that was a bit more sporting and a bit more powerful than her current 02 Bonneville. We looked over the field of candidates and ended up at the one bike that fit her wishes and her size. She put her money down on an 08 F800ST with ABS, bags, and the low seat and suspension options. It will be her first BMW motorcycle :clap (she does all ready have a BMW car). Expected delivery is April or May. That will put a serious strain on the garage space as she is keeping her Bonneville, at least for the present time. I guess I'll have to sign her up now as a member.:thumb

One other interesting item was the display of BMW helmets. This is the first time I have seen them available here in Canada in a very long time. Not sure what changed, but I'm glad to see them being sold here now. They are some nice quality items and the prices were not too outrageous. I will deffinitely be looking at them in a year or two when I'm due for a new lid.

...they're not expected in Canada til September....

Ed:

But BMW Canada probably had them at the Toronto show, right? :banghead

Congrats to Kristi on her new wheels. :clap I demo'd the S last year and was really impressed with it. The ST should be even better for what you (I mean Kristi) :laugh will be doing with it.

I spent a couple of hours at the show yesterday, and the bikes that really intrigued me were the HyperMotard and that new Kawasaki Versys.

Did you see Gary Egan at the Ducati booth? I spoke with him last year about his cross Canada run and he is a very down to earth guy.
