On Dec. 15th I ordered a leather jacket for my wife from www.ridegear.com. It was competitively priced and their website was well organized and attractive. The company I usually purchase from was out of her size so I thought I'd give ridegear.com a try. I placed the order using a debit card and immediately received an email confirmation noting the order would ship in 1 - 4 days and I would receive confirmation when it did. After 4 days I attempted to reach them via email because I had yet to hear from them. I got an auto response to my email and was given a "case" number and was told I would be contacted with a resolution. Several days later I had yet to hear from them. It was now the 21st and any hope I had getting this gift by Christmas was gone. The following day after a number of attempts I finally got a customer service rep on the phone who looked up by order and told me the item I ordered was out of stock. He apologized for the oversight and I asked for a refund (my account had been debited on the day I placed the order). :dunno To make a long story short it is now Jan. 2nd and I have yet to see my refund. There are a lot of fine internet companies out there and I very rarely have problems. I wonder if any other BMWMOA members have had similar problems with ridegear.com?

These folks have a horrible reputation on resellerratings.com (a "must stop" for anyone shopping online!) Here it is:

I would urge you, if you have still not yet received your refund, to initiate a dispute with your bank card company and make sure to add your experience to the above.

You know, I've seen a few hundred posts asking for recommendations for online vendors. Here, there, and everywhere. I've never once even seen ridegear.com mentioined.
Shame you didn't do a search, you would have found a few hundred glowing testamonials for www.newenough.com and www.motorcycleleatherexchange.com. Sorry about your wife's jacket. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Good page to know about. There is no excuse for this... even if they don't carry stock and order gear from their distributor as orders are placed, most distributors (Tucker Rocky, etc) ship within a few days. There should be no more than 1 week delay. I don't know anything about this outfit, but I'll be staying away!

Ditto on the newenough recommendation. I've bought from them many times. They even have a 110% store credit option for returns, which can offset the return shipping cost, depending on the item. I always use this option, because I know I'm going to end up buying from them again. Great customer service.

Actually www.newenough.com is my preferred vendor as well, but they were out of my wife's size so I ended up ordering from ridegear.com....never again. BTW I found the same jacket on www.kneedraggers.com on Friday Dec. 21st. They managed to get the jacket delivered on Dec 24th so kudos to them as well.

I think another lesson coming your way is about using a debit card for online purchases. Your about to find out that the rules concerning buyer protection are very different from credit cards.
Hopefully your card issuer can offer some help.
