View Full Version : How much does a dealer "deal" on a new R1200GS Adventure?

I'm curious as to you new 12GS ADV owners paid for your bike.

Did the deal take anything off of these bikes or did you have to pay the full price? I know they are popular.

If you feel uncomfortable posting, feel free privately at: gsmetal@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance!

All I can say, knowing this from within the dealer system, is there is not much margin on BMW cycles for the dealers to "deal" within. If anyone sells bikes below MSRP, they have to sell an awful lot of them to stay in business.

To cut those margins much at all really means the dealer is operating at a loss. Not a good way to stay in business.

They don't deal. But they don't profiteer on the demand on the market for this great bike. like some HD dealers used to.

Pay the full fare for a great bike. IF you want to deal, buy some other brand. :)

This dealer (http://www.bmwventura.com/miscpage_007.asp) has 7 GSAs that they are offering some kind of deal on. Making room for the '08s, I expect, which are appreciably different models.

Kind of far from WI, but you might drop them a line just to see what's what. I bought my GSA from them, and though I got no deal, I did have a great shopping experience.

I live in Orlando and have bought my last four bikes here www.bmwrides.com (100 miles) I have two dealers closer. One in Orlando (10 miles), the other in Daytona (50 miles).

When the new 1200GS came out:deal
When the 1200RT came out:deal
They make it worth my ride...:deal
Could be worth a call, a fly and ride is always fun.

My experience has been that dealers have very little margin on the price of the motorcycle, but they do make a bundle on the accessories (tank bags, saddle bags, etc) I have seen that you can bargain a lot on the accessories (I was able to get 30% off the accessories)

My own 2 cents

Cheers

I paid list on my 07 RT but I did get $350 off on a service contract and negotiated a free 600 mile service. I also got free cylinder head guards. They still made money or they wouldn't have sold me the bike.:dance

Even though you asked about the ADV model, not too many people seem to be willing to share. I found my GS (not ADV) after calling several dealers in this area. They all wanted $16,600 for it. Found the same bike at one of them, willing to drop the price to $15,400, threw in a shirt and hat, and didn't charge me for the bag mounts but let me keep them.
One of the dealers tried to add destination even though it clearly said on their invoice that it was included in the listed price.
Anyhow, guess they can deal when they need to. This was on an '07 R1200GS with computer, ABS, Red, Bag Mounts, Heated Grips, Mag Wheels, and probably something I forgot. Also got the FREE 1/2 Zumo that BMW sells. Bought it the last part of Sept in '07.

If you don't ask you don't get! Most dealers, if they believe you are serious will do some sort of deal.

I have bought 10 BMWs over the last 18 years from dealers here in the US and in the UK and always got a deal.

I bought a new 07 GSA from Max BMW in New York last March..............and let's just say they looked after me very well. If my memory serves me correctly I paid list for the basic bike but got one with ABS, cases, tank bag, computer and extra lights.

I remember noticinig at the time that he had a lot of bikes in stock - I picked my GSA from a line of about 10 - and this was when they were still very new out and apparently a bit thin on the ground.

I think it can help if your dealer is of a 'good' size and shifts lots of units each month.

Incidently on top of the good deal I find the dealership a pleasure to work with - everyone seesm very enthusiastic.

I'm from Burlington, WI and bought an 07 GSA right around this time last year. I called Michelers (spelling???) in Beaver Dam and BMW of Milwaukee and asked what their price would be for exactly what I wanted. BMW of Milwaukee was like $800 cheaper and they had to order the bike to my specifications. BMW of Milwaukee has been just great with warranty stuff and service and everything. I would suggest BMW of Milwaukee.

If you are interested in the exact price I paid, let me know...I would have to go dig it up from the files.

I thought I had a pretty good relationship with my dealer. I went in twice, once at the end of the month and once at the end of the year. I was ready to buy. Had half down and gold credit for the rest. I was a regular customer who had spent thousands in the store besides the price of a bike. I was interested in a standard GS, a bike on the market for three years. My dealer wouldn't budge.

I would have signed on the dotted line for $500 or free bags. I bought my bike at Dealer B and Dealer A was dumfounded that I bought a bike somewhere else.

I bought my 07 GSA from my local dealer at just under MSRP. I may have found a better price if I shop the internet but there's alot to said on a working relationship with your local dealer. They should be able to help you alot on accessories for yourself or bike at a good discount, maybe even throw in the 600 mile service. Hope you find your bike you picked the right BMW.
