To all rally participants, please be aware of The Hanford Nuclear Facility. If you are interested in touring the power plant, stay away from the tank farm area (which is closed to the public) as three workers recently inhaled some fumes and ended up in the hospital. Another area of concern is The Silver Valley area at Kellog. and Wallace Idaho which is part of the EPA Superfund cleanup deal. A century of mining and smelting precious metals has left the area polluted with arsenic, cadmium, lead and zinc. So... if you are wanting to explore the mines and associated trails (you GS types) stay out of the mine tailings and mixing up the dust where the bad elements are hiding. No reason to freak out, just be aware and have a great time riding in some of the most beautiful roads in this country. See y'all at the rally!

I was in the Hanford Nuclear Facility area last year specifically to see some of that stuff. Unfortunately (or maybe, fortunately), you can't see any of the really interesting stuff. There is a power plant with an exhibit nearby, but you can't actually tour the plant. The closest you can get to Hanford is the public roads in the area. The museum has been moved away from Hanford to Richland (I believe). It's mildly interesting with some unique books, but a disappointment if you're expecting to see glowing green contaminated animals :)

You'll have to excuse Garth, he only just ate his first lobster at the Pemi rally
and now he's obsessed with new and unusual taste sensations.
Hi, Garth! :wave
