Which is better - the Omega from Motorrad Elektrik or the Enduralast from Euro Motoelectrics?

I just finished researching the same question that you pose because my R100 alternator took a poop. I came to the conclusion that niether one was applicable to my needs; I ended up buying a rebuilt alternator from Motorad El. and a Thunderchild diode board and plan on replacing the voltage regulator relay with solid state. Once I move the fuses out of the shell my electric upgrade will be complete. The thing that convinced me not to spend all that money replacing the whole charging system was that the tests made by snobum and others indicate that the extra wattage is only available at some higher rpm's that I rarely ever use ... so watt use would they be to me?

I went with the omega and have no complaints.

I upgraded the charging system on my RS over a year ago with the Enduralast. The installation was straight forward (to me) but took a bit of time. Currently I run two additional PIAA 35 Watt lamps, and a PIAA high intensity H4 (headlight), to help idot drivers see me. In addition I have converted the turn signals to 1157 bulbs as "running" lamps. With all this load the voltmeter holds 14.0 - 14.2 VDC at any RPM above 2,000 - 2,200.

In MHO any of the charging system upgrades aren't cheap. But against the price of a new bike, and for safety/lighting sake, they are quite reasonable. For my money the upgrade was well worth the investment as the Enduralast system has no brushes, or diode board to overheat/wear out. I plan to convert the 1157's and instrument cluster lamps to LED's in the near future which will recover some lost "wattage" for a heated vest, grips, etc.

Just my opinion, not necessarily the opinion of the managment;)

I did the Omega system in my R100/7 last year with great results, period. No issue here. The original alternator parts from BMW are "equally" expensive, so why not do the better upgraded stuff. I did. Who's study did the rpm challenge anyhow? Do they ride at 2-3000 rpms everywhere? Rediculous study perhaps, as the Airheads frequently run 4500-5500 rpms if you ride normal freeway speeds, or even spirited twisties:). The Omega, etc charging systems are quite noticably better, once you get the parts in your hands and look at them. A NICE upgrade indeed in my R100/7...Randy13233:usa

And don't forget, "Eliminates "burnt out warning light" no-charge condition of Bosch systems." Both systems are excellent upgrades.

I love my Omega system and love the service, knowledge of Motorrad Electric. Rick is a great guy. I have no complaints at all. At the same time I have no experience with the Enduralast.

Me too, I just don't want to do all that typing and spelling.

have had the eduralast for over a year, road through a lot off 95 plus days, seven miles off bumper to bumper stop and crawl(at 95+, walked the bike alot ,forgot how many times I shut down and restarted) everything ran great!!

Based on what I've seen here and elsewhere, I'm inclining toward the Omega, despite the slightly higher price than the Enduralast. It should be easily able to handle the heated grips, auxilllary lights, and Gerbings I regularly use.

For some no doubt the Omega will do the job, some will like the Enduralast better. Personal choice for course!!!! Personally, after 40 years in engineering, my creed has been the "K.I.S.S." (Keep it Simple Stupid)principle!! For me the Enduralast has less "stuff" to go wrong. Again personal choice!! Both excellent systems!!:brow

Even an upgraded charging system can be overwhelmed by excessive power draw. (DAMHIK)

Even counting the watts, it is a good idea to leave some charging power in reserve. I try not to exceed 300 W total for the of bike and farkle.
