I am the original owner of a 1975 R90/6 and have always used a Windjammer III fairing. In its day it was the standard going down the road. Since then what other after market fairings would you recommend? I like the Windjammer III because it does a good job of blocking air. At the same time it does not feel very aerodynamic. Could someone recommend a fairing that is still in production but is more aerodynamic while at the same time offers good wind protection. Please advise.

Fairings are pretty interchangeable... You have several options:
1. BMW S Fairing, RS or RT Fairing
2. Parabellum Sport Shield or Scout
3. Hannigan has 3 different types that will fit
4. Vetter and Windjammers are still out there
5. Several different windshields are also out there...

Good luck deciding.... :dance

one that wasn't mentioned above is the Don Vesco Rabid Transit. You might also find a Pichler. Similar to the airhead RS fairing. Pichler also made one like a small Windjammer or big Scout ...whatever.

You'd find all of these used. I think Hannigan is about the only one still in production. Someone's bound to show me I'm wrong. Good luck.

Dont forget the luftmeister systems, you can still find them on occasion on e-bay

weight can be an issue for some, but I also have the rear bags so weight is a little better balanced then a fairing without the extra weight.
I also have progressive springs and Konis, so handling is good even with the extra weight

cant imagine riding in the rain without a fairing now, my current bike is the first bike I have owned with a fiaring, and Ive been riding over 40 years and 13 different bikes

There are two Vesco Rabid Transit fairings on the internet BMW riders page. The are scarce and rarely available.

These fairings are unique, streamlined and to some attractive. Certianly they are period correct for "classic" airheads. Pictures can be found in the ride reports on page 7 of Beer Team's photo essay of his summer. The picture shows a white fairing on a white motorcycle with a silver/blue R100RS behind.

+1 on the Hannigan. The make a good looking aerodynamic fairing and Jerry is knowledgeable and helpful. They also have some good options on lighting if you have the dollars and watts to support it.

I have a parabellum scout, which works well if you want a small, clean fairing to eliminate buffeting. You still get substantial wind and noise. I expect to get a Hannigan with the HID lights one of these days.

another unique and well-made alternative would be one of the Pichler models http://www.pichler.de/Pages/aerodyne.htm
I ran a P-3 on a K75 (has lowers, most like the EXS of their current models) for a number of years- sort of like an RS fairing in it's general design.
fwiw- the Luftmeister is very very similar to the Windcrammer. either could be replaced with a barn door, and it would be a little tough to tell the difference. :whistle
