Hi all,
I am thinking about purchasing an 04 R1100S as a second, scoot around town and possible track bike. Does anyone know of any issues or problems I should be aware of before pulling the trigger?
Thanks,
David

I have an 04 R1100S and have had it for a little over a year. Love the bike and have had no problems/issues with it. I do mostly day trips and local riding on it but have saddlebags and have done some sport touring on it also.

Moved to the Oilheads forum where it may find more visibility.

I have a '01 R1100S, I've had some problems, but most of its because of a dealer screwing things up. They are fixed now, and it runs very well. I love the bike very much. Its a good bike.
As a track bike... Its going to be expensive, but thats ok I guess.

yup, mods are gonna cost.
there will be some way cheaper track bikes that'll smoke you
but as a confident sport tourer, its tough to beat. 50K in two and and a half years with four 1000 mile plus days i can honest say this bike is a genuine "all rounder".
btw, in terms of "problems" they are probably the most "trouble free" oilheads. it might have to do with lower production volume, but they generally fare pretty well.

take a loooong look here before asking questions (unless you've got your nomex on, and are prepared for a flame job)- pelicanparts.com , tech forums, BMW, R1100S/R1200S one of the very best model specific sites on the web for this (or any) bike.
umm, 63K on my 2001- just wanting pivot bearings swapped out, no other issues.
72K on my g/f's 1999- we've done a drive shaft (worn u-joint) and pivot bearings (until you put in the bronze bushing set from rubberchickengarage tehy have to be considered a 'wear" item).
2004 is a very good year- better trans mounts, dual spark ignition is smoother running with better fuel mileage (and very slightly better power).
terham- you really need to do a cannisterectomy- that thing be uglies.

Love my 01. 30K miles with no problems. Stock seat is rock hard. OK for a track bike but one of these is a good upgrade.

I was always hoping to find a Boxer Cup Replica to stick in my garage for kicks and posterity. I already had my K1200R, so it wasn't about fast, just hoots. Well, I've only put a few hundred miles on it but it is one heck of a bike! Smooth, fast, NIMBLE, quiet, solid, well-balanced. Can't speak to problems, but I'm looking forward to many years of fun. I've had a lot of Beemers and this one is at the top of the fun list.
