I wonder if Rob tows a generator on a trailer in order to power all that stuff.
Personally, I would go "green" and tow a trailer with solar panels.

No, the bike has dual batteries and electrical systems...one for the bike and the second for the gadgets. His bike really is tricked out.

It's no problem for him; he's instrument rated.

The Nye man demonstrates the power of the force to Gerhard Mueller project
manager of the new K-Bike. The antennas have access to a global communication
system that make the X-files pale in comparison.

There is sufficient computer power in that package to send 1,000 Iron Butt
riders to Mars and bring them back again recalculating an infinite number of
arcs and parabolic curves.

If only there was a way to get that information to a heads-up display on the windshield and toggle the screens instead of having to look down at the gadgets . . .

How did you know about the heads-up display? That was supposed to be Q level clearance and all tapes regarding its use were destroyed by an agency so secret that ... :scratch

I think the bike is a police model a lot more generating capacity. Not
sure if it has two electrical systems but the police model does have
two batteries.

Did you notice the helmet?
One sticker for each cow, moose, buffalo, American bison, yak, banteng, gaur, and gayal that the ride has sliced in half with the sonic wave that precedes the bike. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/PaulBach/Smilies/smileybull.gif

Uhh, from what I've seen he's a cool guy, but these pictures actually make me kind of annoyed.
I don't even have a map or clock with me when I ride.. and my tach doesn't have a needle.. and my cell phone's usually dead. Guess I'm more of the classic adventure rider.

Sure - but if you were intending to win an 11 day, 11K mile, competitive endurance rally where timing and navigation were critical to success you might add a little equipment too. It all depends on your goals.

I travel with one GPS and some paper maps as a backup, and that's all. I think having more than one GPS plus a LCD display is a bit excessive as well, but to each his own. Rob is a big boy and can do what he wants. :)
That bothers me about the IBA a bit, though... try winning it on a low budget (tires, fuel, food, lodging, and one gps). It's probably not going to happen. One guy on an Airhead made a decent attempt this year, although he just missed the points to be "finisher". Nowhere close to #1, of course. In a way I have more respect for him (and others like him) who try it on an older bike and on a shoestring budget. Nothing against Rob, of course - he's doing what he has to in order to compete, and I can't fault him for that.
I also dislike that they put people who are attempting on a low budget in the "hopeless" class. I think that puts the IBA organizers in the "jerk" class. It screams of elitism.
I think they need to rename the "Iron Butt Rally" to the "Big Bucks Navigational System Iron Butt Rally". :p I know there are people who do it on mostly stock bikes without large investments of cash for computers and things (I don't think Boxergrrlie runs with an LCD screen)... I'm just nonplussed with the setup of the rally, not the riders. So, no offense to IBA riders, present or future - some offense to the IBA organizers, though. :whistle

Different strokes, guys. Some hunters like to go out with the latest and greatest high powered rifle and scope, others prefer to hunt with muzzle loaders or bow and arrow. Not sure why anyone would be "upset" with Rob's choice of equipment.

Paul, this is a photo of my nightmares. Working in the I.T. department, I get to see network wiring closets that resemble this. :uhoh
I have a bit of OCD when it comes to organization; doubly so when it comes to wiring, and triple when it's on my bike. I'd have to pull over and straighten all of that out and wire tie everything before I could continue. :heh

I feel your pain.
I have occasional contact with our IT department (they do all of their troubleshooting from their laptops clacking FTTP commands).
We electricians always get called when there's a problem with something on the network. Of course they never believe us when we tell them that our Fluke network tester has just certified the line from the server room all the way to the patch cord of the machine in question.
Uggh!
It's only after testing, retesting, changing ports, patch cords, and wasting 3 hours of labor doing so that we then have to bring the computer to them (double UGGH!) so they can change the card.

I don't have a problem with someone getting the latest and greatest hunting equipment so long as it's not overkill.
I deer hunt with a couple of 'tards who use 300 win mags and 7mm's for whitetail, then wonder why they ruin so much meat. Those guns are for shooting elk or mulies the next mountain away.
I hunt with a simple 30-30 lever action. Guess who has the biggest body count every year?
I won't even go in to the "manhood compensation" remarks because that's something only Mrs. Nye can give an opinion on. Cheers to Mr. Nye for pushing the technological envelope so long as it doesn't distract from his riding and we have someone writing a forum obit.
What's next? The next logical step for rob's bike would be a fighter jet style HUD projecting in his windshield. It's be interesting if he could get one surplus and get it talking to the VGA output on his computer.
