Just thought I’d share with you one of the little projects that I’ve been working on.

I’ve always liked the look of amber running lights on bikes, was very suprised that the bimmer did not have this feature. So I decided to make my own. Of course the system that I needed could not interfere with the factory bulb check system and had to work seamlessly with the ZFE (CANbus). Well I think that I came up with a good little system to do this, works well, and no problems with the factory electrics. It uses PWM to drive the lights on at a lower voltage to give a lower wattage output, this way the signal lights are significantly brighter and visible. It will also work on any bike, or car for that matter, that is positive side switched.

With the headlamps on (HIDs) still visible.

I had to get a small run of the circuit boards made to get them done, so I could make some for others that would like this feature. If you are interested, PM me and I’ll give more info. Not looking to get rich from this just sharing what I made. The price will be the cost of the components and for my time and shipping will work out to be about $50.00.

Also working on a brake light/tail light that WILL work with the ZFE, regardless of software updates/year/or whatever! Will post when that is done.

do the taillites also run off this set-up? Looks great, been waiting a few years for Kissan to figure this out

You could run the tail signals off this as well, but it is against the law to have rear facing amber lights on all the time. I am working on a few little gadgets like this, so stay tuned.

Sent you a PM.

In North Carolina, it is not against the law to have rear facing amber lights. Only blue lights are not permitted. Blue lights are for law enforcement vehicles only.

I'm waiting for word that this setup will fit inside the R1200R/GS turn signal housings. It'd be nice. Why not amber to the front and red to the rear?

The only thing that you have to do at the signal light it self, is hook up an additional wire, it uses the stock bulb. you could put red bulbs in the rear if you wanted I guess. Hope this answers your questions. The unit it self can be mounted anywhere, just need to run the wires to the sig.s and to a switched power source.

This is looks like a great board. Much better than the hack-job I came up with.

Have you considered adding a timer so that the light is completely dark between turn signals?

I thought about doing that, but it would more than double the circuitry, I would have to use two driver circuits to seperate left and right outputs, and a 4001 cmos gate ic to control the outputs. There is enough of a diferental in output of the marker lights versus the signal lights that I didnt think it justifyed the added expence and complexity.

Earl,

I installed the LED units in my turn signals of my R12R. Would this unit work with them?

Sorry not to reply sooner. Unfortunatly, this unit will not work with LEDs. They operate on a completely differant principal than incondecent lights. Would be a very easy mod. though.

Thanks for all the feed back and intrest in my marker lights, I still have a few more left so if anyone wants one let me know.

Question: Where did you hide the board? I guess it's easier to hide on an RT than a GS.

By the way that's way cool.

the unit is quite small (1by2by3/4") so it is very easy to hide up behind the IP or on the back of the headlamp assembly.
