View Full Version : How is your gas milage?

What kind of numbers do you get?
I know a lot of it depends on riding style, but I am kind of disappointed in the milage of my Rockster. On my R1100RL I averaged 42 mpg very consistently. I didn't have a windshield or anything on that bike either.
With the Rockster I haven't even gotten 40 mpg to date, it runs around 36. I know the bike has a slightly larger displacement, but with the dual plugs and all I thought I would be in the same neighborhood or better than my old bike. I believe my riding style is very close if not exactly the same.
(Who knows, maybe the fancy stripe job is making me root on the throttle a lot more....)
How about you R1150 guys and gals - what kind of milage are you getting?

I don't really check that often but usually between 35 to 43 mpg.
I ride mostly super slab to work and am usually speeding. I'm one of those 20 over riders in the speed poll. Its not unusual for me to crank it up. K bikes just aren't made for track days, so the super slab will have to do! It just runs so well at 6000 rpm.:heh

My R1150RT gets from 40-50mpg on the highway depending on wind and speed. Normal at 70-75 mph is 45 or better.

I get a consistent 42-45 mpg. This is to and from work, 4 mi. each way in town, and pleasure riding in the foothills. I have a touring w/s with a laminar lip, and always have my saddlebags on.

The one year average on my 03 K1200LT was 44.3 MPG. That includes everything; road trips, a daily commute 45 miles on the slab, and any other riding I've done. This is off the odometer without any corrections.

If I figure mileage using the GPS it's 42.2 MPG. When I look at my records for the first year I've found the odometer consistently reads 4 to 5% higher than the GPS mileage. If I look at what the BC has been telling me at each fillup, the average MPG has been 42.0 which is pretty close to the GPS number.

No, I haven’t done any distance “calibration” checks to see which is more accurate, the odometer or GPS, but I figure that will give me something to do on the way to Branson in April.

Low of 33 in hard mountain ride'n

High of 51 in high elevation tour mode

Typical 42-44

My '96 R1100RTL gets about 38MPG in general use driving. Out on the highway with constant speed (65-70), it might get 40MPG.

This is the worst gas mileage compared to any of my previous Beemers (R75/5;R80RT;K75T's). With gas approaching $2/gal, and the fact that I have to use Premium gas with the Oilhead (unlike the K's), I find this gas-gulping to be a increasing problem.:(

VFR - mid 30s, no matter how I ride it.
RS - near 30 if I thrash it, higher if I'm riding it down the highway at sane speeds.
S - I saw as low as 27mpg at a track day. Usual was about 33mpg.

Checked twice, first time 48, next 49. I am impressed with the dual plug.....

Close to the same.

Winter riding&start-ups w/winter fuel, drops it down to around 39/40.

44.5 mpg on a monoplugged R1200C with Montana windshield, have the aeroflow setup for this year. I keep track of my mileage on a spread sheet.

I've also compared my tripmeter to my GPS, its pretty much right on. Always within a mile after a gas tank full, which is about 150 miles.

I bought my 1100R 3 months ago with 2000 miles (it had been in storage since almost new) and the first few tankfuls it got 35 to 37 mpg, with a low of 33 mpg. Now after a very needed throttle body sync and with over 4000 miles it's getting a more consistent 41 mpg in mixed street and freeway riding. I have the factory windscreen, ride with hard bags 99% of the time, always solo (wife has her own bike).

I'm OK with anything over 40 mpg, but I must say that's about the lowest gas mileage of any bike I've ever owned. Of recent bikes, my former K75S got 45 - 47 mpg, my Kawasaki 750 gets 45 - 50 (as high as 52 on occasion), even my old Suzuki Intruder cruiser got close to 50 mpg most of the time.

We used to have an F650CS that got 55 - 59 mpg and I'm told that was rather low for that bike. My wife's current F650GS gets 58 - 60 mpg, and that's almost all in town, in traffic. Quite remarkable mileage for a 650; my Kawi 250 dual-sport is much smaller and lighter yet doesn't do all that much better (65 - 70 mpg).

Can anyone explain why an RT is getting 10mpg better than I am? Again, I do not ride like a racer. Keep the tach at around 5k.

I get 38-40 mpg on my R1100RL. Sometimes on the highway I get 42-43 mpg. That said I've had people tell me they never get over 35 mpg or always get over 45 mpg on the same model. I think a lot has to do with how you ride. I wind it up some but don't generally thrash the bike. But, at a track day I noticed that I was usually 1,000 RPM higher than on the street and the mileage dropped a lot! I think some of the high mileage guys never wind it out and rarely accelerate rapidly.

Just my $0.02

Just guessing, I'd say the fully faired RT is more aerodynamic than a non-faired bike with no windshield. I don't ride like a racer either, but I don't baby it along either. The 48mpg was when the bike had 1000 miles on it, now that it has 2700 I will check it again. It sounds like a beautiful weekend coming up so I'll maybe get that done.

I usually run around 4K. With the 6 speed that's about 80.
