I have several pretty small areas of rust on the frame of my 1974 R90/6, totaling, I suppose, about 4 - 6 sq. inches. It's overdue for a complete restoration, but I'm not near ready for such a project. I would like to clean the areas and repaint to match the original. Does anybody have a recommendation for primer and paint - and any other surface prep requirements?

I also want to replace the tires and spokes. How can I assure the wheels themselves are in the best possible condition? Would a microscopic examination reveal any and all flaws in the metal?

Google POR 15. It is pretty neat stuff and may be just what you are looking for.

Thanks. Both of these will be very useful to me.

Good old Rustoleum Black semi-gloss is an excellent match to the BMW frame paint for touch up purposes.
