View Full Version : K75- What is this part?
This is where my leak is coming from. Is this oil preassure/temperature/probe?
I can't find anything relating this part on the Clymer.
Still. My oil is clean and my coolant is crystal green clear. I may be in luck with the pump and may not need a rebuilt or replace.:dance

That is the oil pressure switch - Part # 12 61 1 277 642
Does it come out just like a spark plug? I have looked in the Clymer over and over for instalation, torque values and details and I can't find anything.
I am sSO happy that my pump seems to be leak free! I could ride all the way to Oregon!(right after a spline lube job of sourse)
I am going to be at the BMW dealer right at opening time. Maybe I will camp out. Obsessive...(I hope so!):brad

It simply has a threaded section and a crush washer. Get a new crush washer. The leak is probably in the body of the sending unit where the metal crimps around the phenolic. Just replace it. It just unscrews.

The BMW service manual indicates a torque of 40 Nm for the oil pressure switch on a K1100. I expect yours is the same.
Thanks jskene!
I called the Bmer dealer this morning and they are out of that part. The earliest they can get it is next Tuesday. With the help of Paul, I was able to confirm that the same part number can be found in an auto part store for the same exact oil switch and about half price. I called back the BMW dealer and asked about what kind of crush washer and torque preassure should be applied and they did not have that information available.
I believe I am ready for a small wrenching experience later today.
Will I need to drain the oil for this task? I will soon find out!:scratch

you don't need to drain the oil for oil presure swich replacement! When you remove this part litle oil will come out (not much) but simply remove old part and instal new one.when you got your part ay the parts store just ask for crush washer, they shuld have asortment of diffrent sizes,im shore they can find right one.BTW some sensors allredy come with replacement crush washers so check the box.
good luck,martin

When mine croaked on my K75, I was able to source a similar part from the local auto parts joint. They had a cross reference chart and matched it up for me. It was $7 or something cheap.

if you are really riding to Oregon, keep your annoymous book handy, there are tons of us that can help out in a pinch
of course, this is not the best time of year to ride to Ory-gone
unless you really enjoy riding in the freezing rain and black ice:)
After a couple of searches in Auto Parts Stores and getting nowhere trying to expolain to them that it was a somewhat generic part. I broke down and drove to Orlando BMW to order the part. To my luck they did indeed have one after all! $17. 50. I would have paid $50!
I am beyond happy! No more oil spot in my garage. I have a tourque wrench, but did not have the actual socket for the wrench so I had to tighten the part with discretion. It works.
I do not want to single out anybody more than others since all of you helped "all thumbs" (me) get the simple repiar done. A big thank you to all including and specially those who took extra time to help me via private message.
This K75 is sweet!!
Repeat after me....
No Oil Drip anymore!:dance
No need to take appart oil/water pump. :dance
No need for rebuilding anything.:dance
