I have a new 07 R1200GS and I am having trouble with the volume of gas in the tank. I only have 700 miles on it, after about 160 miles on a tank of gas the warning light comes on and about 15 miles later all of the bars for the fuel gauge are gone and it says I am empty. When I stop to fill up however, I can only get about 3 gallons into the tank. I had the dealer look at it and they drained the tank and recailibrated the sensors, but it still does the same thing. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with my 07 F800S this month, and today the servicing dealer told me a fuel pump has been ordered for me because the sensor is intergrated into that. Hope this helps.

I'd say back to the dealer for you and make sure this is covered under warranty. That low fuel light should not come on until you only have one gallon of gas left in the tank. Since you can only get three in, it definitely indicates a calibration problem.

Andy VH, I agree with what you said, but considering the dealer has to replace my fuel pump assembly to fix my similar problem, I don't think it's a calibration issue that can be adjusted. The entire pump has to be replaced because the sensor is in the pump.
7Bikes, I brought my bike in for that, you should too. If I would have known how the problem needed to be fixed, I would have brought it in earlier, rather than scoping it out for a few tankfuls. That sensor in yours that is bad, is probably the same one in my 07 bike.

You get warnings when you have about TWO gallons left. It reads 'empty' when you have a theoretical reserve of 1.1 gallon left (I guess to use psychology to prevent you from running it fully empty). It bugged me at first but understanding this nuance of the bike's 'language' has made it easier to deal with.
Also, I have found that if you reset the average speed and average MPG readings WHILE MOVING rather than while still sitting at the pump you'll get more accurate calculations down the road. I've had the bike for almost 4K miles now and I find that fuel-management is now pretty straightforward.

My bike is different. I get a low fuel light and warnings with 40 miles to go, and additional warnings every 5 miles thereafter, and at 0 to go, there is still some left. My problem was after full, it would count up to 118-120 miles to go, fluctuate from there to 104 and that was it for about 100 miles, then drop. On a bike with a 4.4 gallon tank, and 50-60 mpg, those numbers were ridiculous having nada to do with the low fuel light. That's why they are replacing my fuel pump with sensor and all. Maybe after that, it'll count up correctly. The low fuel light should still come on at 40 miles to go.

I have an '07 GS also. I have found that when my dash says "0 miles left" I had better have a gas station in sight. When it gets to that "0 miles left" I have put in 5.5 gals. So I was pretty low. On mine it starts counting down to "0" at about 170 miles, and I can usually get 200 miles on a tank. I always reset one of my trip meters as a second gas gauge.

IWhen it gets to that "0 miles left" I have put in 5.5 gals. So I was pretty low. That's wierd. I filled my R1200R with 5.5 gallons when the computer said I had 19 miles left, and I thought the GS tank was a couple gallons larger.

5.3 gallon tank on my 05, the 07 Adventure has 8.7. The adventure fuel warning is coming on at 70 miles the last two tanks. I assume that is two gallons...still testing
Helen's R1150R with a 5.3 tank can run a few miles further than the standard GS, typically 230 miles unless really hammering...I start panic mode near 210. In west TX, that can happen a lot!
