Does anyone know where to purchase fuel tank protector film for an 1150 GS? 3M, AKA: X-Pel makes a clear stick on film that you can apply on your fuel tank to protect the paint. I cannot seem to find a vendor that sells a precut kit for the 1150GS. Thanks in advance.

I tried using the film last year and because of the shape of the tank with all of the "inside curvature" shapes, it was a real pain to put it in; and itjust didn't last very long in the rain and other weather conditions. I think I managed to keep it in place for about 2-3 weeks of cross country traveling before it just blew at one gas stop....I'd just keep the tank well polished and try and not put any heavy rough stuff on it.

I've seen the precut kits from different companies on dealer shelves. Since the GS has been around for a while I would surprised if someone doesn't make a kit for it. I got mine (for a K1200RS) from Venture BMW in Alabama. I don't remember who made the kit but you might want to give them a call at (800) 252-2697 or see www.venturebmws.com .

Otherwise you can buy 3M film from just about any automobile detail/accesssory shop. I frequent a little hole-in-the-wall shop in a strip mall near my house. I'm sure they would install it for you too. Which might be a good idea if you've never done it before.

Nothing could be easier than installing the film, especially if you get pre-cut pieces.
Spray the tank with windex once and wipe it clean. Spray it again and leave it wet. Apply the film and use something to squeegee the air and windex out from under the film. The windex allows you to move the film around to get it straight before the adhesive sets up.
