I wouldn't like to receive as a gift a Ducati or MV Agusta, they are too uncomfortable for my kind of sport-touring. I'd like something more practical from Italy but not too flashy, say, like the rumored Ferrari SUV.

What's on your wish list?

Good lord, no!

Ferrari simply is not in that market - it would kill them. Ferrari might help another company build stuff (such as Maserati and Fiat, all part of the same group) but it has rejected building even a four-door car, much less a SUV.

What about an Aprilia Futura? They're supposed to be an excellent all round sport tourer.

What's on your wish list? antaeas

Perhaps an '84 to '89 Porsche 911 sunroof coupe; or a 964; I can't decide and I'm in no hurry. The everyday driver cars are so good now that I am no longer obsessed by the exotics.:)

It would kill them. SachiWilson

I can't see Ferrari doing this either. And they might see it as following Porsche's lead, and they like to keep their distance from Porsche.

I had an interesting conversation with a Porsche GT2 owner the other day. He told me how much he appreciated guys like me (I have a Cayman) and those who buy the Boxter and Cayenne. The company is in such great financial shape, thanks to increased sales of those cars, that he can enjoy his GT2 without fear that it may, some day, go away. I told him he was welcome......love to help a guy out, you know.:scratch

:ha

It does seem that the Cayenne has been a smash hit.

I just read an article about Ferrari's marketing stragegy, part of which is to maintain a waiting period of at least a year.

The Cayman's a great ride. A good friend had progressed to an '06 after 8 months with a Boxster and was seriously considering the GT2 for this year. However, the sport sedan concept had been gnawing away at him and he's currently the proud owner of a real purty '07 335xi. Considering he's moving back East and will be using it as an all-season daily, it was a reasonable "upgrade". But like I said, the Cayman's a great ride :thumb

Thanks.....I love it! On my wish list would be the GT2 engine in my Cayman.....now that would be a ride! But I would settle for another year of the quality of competition shown by Porsche and Ferrari in the ALMS GT2 Class this year.....what a great series of close battles, ultimately won (alas, :hungover ) by Ferrari.

And as long as we're wishing.....a new Ducati, perhaps. Natalie Gulbis as a golf partner. Come to think of it.....a new golf swing!

Enough cash to take a 3-4 month ride around Scandinavia, and especially Iceland. Time permitting I'd hit parts of the rest of Europe, as well.

An exceptional girl to share the holidays with (and then take it from there)? Too needy? :violin

The Cayman's a great ride.
I remember one of the car-magazines called it "the best Porsche at any price," and I had to pick one it would be the Cayman. Nice and simple, like a good sports-car should be. Others may be more powerful or faster, but good balanced simplicty and focus of purpose beats all that any day.

And the Boxter's back-end looks like a frog's ass.

OK, even if Ferrari does take on Porsche in the SUV segment, I probably shouldn't wish for a blood-red, crazy-fast, ultra-luxury 5-door. Santa would ask me about peak oil, greenhouse gases, class warfare, etc. So I hereby change my wish to another item: a new BMW 1-series 3-door. I think it's going to be priced at about one-tenth of the MSRP that is rumored for the Ferrari. Maybe Santa might be more inclined to provide this red stable-mate for my graphite R1200RT.

If you really want an SUV, try the X-5 with the V8 (full time 4WD)......used to own one and it is a screamer (though not as fast as the Cayenne!).

What's on your wish list?

No, no, no, please not Ferrari, the last bastion of the anti-SUV car maker. As one of the Tifosi that's not something that I would want, want to see, or even want to think about.

Ferrari is Sophia Loren while an SUV is Ethel Merman with all due apologies to Ethel Merman.

I'd go for one (no pun intended) of those also. There were a couple I saw in Europe and they were beautiful. From everything I've read, the 135i is a lightning fast car thanks to the light body weight.

Oh if BMW Motorcars would build an even lighter weight car (with no driver aids). Drool.

A healthy second child. Due at the end of April!!!! And then a better paying job so I can support the family and justify purchasing another motorcycle.:dance
Afterall, I want to make sure I have enough bikes for when the kids turn an appropriate riding age. I'm sure they'll love nothing more than riding with their old man while in there teens.
I can't wait to hear "No way dad. Follow at least 1/4 mile behind us. You're cramping our motorcycling style."

Ah, the future...........

BOING! So the 1-Series is FINALLY coming to USA???

As for that 959, I've been lusting for one of those for over twenty years. I saw one in Stuttgart in '87. It was parallel-parked nonchalantly on the side of the street, and first my heart skipped a beat when I recognised what it was (I was a serious car-nut in those days!), then skipped harder when I recognised the license-plate: BB-PW 520...It was the one that was in all my magazines! The 'press-car,' I guess.
Unfortunately I was in a bus so I couldn't stop to gawk, but I'll never forget it.

Well I'm 200# almost 6'2" and I rode that bike.

You own one because they're very nice and very exclusive, not because you can sit on one for 10 hours straight.

After 20 kms, I was only too eager to get back on my old R65...and I'm sure my friend was all too eager to get back on his MV. I've had bikes like this before; the last being a Suzuki RG 500 Gamma. They're too narrowly focused for my likes, but I'd have an MV in my living room.

I wonder why it didn't have the S on the plate. BB stands for Böblingen, a town 20 kms south-west of Stuttgart.

That remains a mystery. I was stationed just down the road in Schwäbisch Gmünd so I saw both BB and S all the time. Most cars in my neighbourhood had AA (Aalen).
When I was looking for the pic to post, I noticed that many 959's had BB-PW plates. Might have been registered to some off-campus Porsche office or something.
