One out of six drivers tested by GMAC failed a rudimentary driver's test. It's a jungle out there.

Take a hard look at which states did best and which did poorest. Texas at least made the "top half" at #24 - not bragging rights position for sure - so I don't really have an agenda with this comment.

But personally, I've always said I disliked riding east of the Mississippi River - and 21 of the worst 25 states are so located east of the Mississippi River. Uhm ????

New York - dead last? Why ... http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/PaulBach/Smilies/WTF.gif But then again our governor wanted illegal aliens to have driver's licenses.

Maybe that would have improved NY's score?? :bolt :hide

Florida on the 33 rd place is much better than I thought. The amount of morons living here should have pushed it dead last... Maybe those bluehairs aren't as bad as those kids in their 'taco tuned' ( big exhaust pipe, lots of noise no power) civics...:rofl

OK; I am officially stunned that Wisconsin is fourth. These people are idiots! I am guessing that the good scores come from their Germanic heritage of undue respect for authority. Either that or no one from Manitowoc or Sheboygan County was tested ... :stick

Just because they can pass a written test, it does not mean the have better driving skills. All it means is that they know the laws better.
Typical media, misleading headline and not looking at the whole story.

Hmmm...
I wonder if population density has something to do with the results. Not defending the east, just curious what effect if anything, that might have. Seems like I know so many folks who, like me, get pretty frustrated with the congestion near cities and if that frustration translates to developing poor driving habits, which in turn could effect driver scores. Results like this often have more than one cause.

PS I just looked at the link and see that it wasn't a test of skills, but rather a test of laws and rules and proper techniques. I can see how that could effect driver abilities but puts things in a different light, those results for me, point to a poor driver ed program and lack of through testing, which I thought about even way back when I took my first test in DC back in 68. It was pretty much a joke.

Knowing the correct answers and driving with some intelligance do NOT necessarily correspond!

How about real vision tests and a hands on driving retest now and then?

Oh, boy. Adding vision tests and driving tests along with the written test failures would, and perhaps should, remove most people from the roads. :clap

I like the old George Carlin observation:

"Have you ever noticed that those driving slower than you are an idiot and those driving faster than you are a maniac?"
