when i browse these forums and read about people's lives and see their location i often wonder, "gee, what's it look like there?". that's the cool thing about this country, there is so much variation in regards to climate, terrain, density that everyone's own little place on this earth is special and interesting.
here's mine. the first view is a west. the grand bank building on the corner is a historical landmark. if you look just above and to the right of it you may be able to make out the spire of the Chrysler building. its cloudy today, so it may not be evident. the second pic is to the east, towards long island roughly. that old looking building on the corner is a club, not sure what it might have been in it's previous life. this street is very busy. that bus that is there now is one of two that drops off several times hourly, 24 hours a day. i've pretty much become used to it. there is nothing one can want that is not within a few minutes walk of my front door. it helps if you speak polish sometimes though, or at least read it! i'm relatively new to the neighborhood (been here since sept 1). it's exciting and i've found i have a fair number of old and new friends within a short walk, so there's always a lot too do. definitely a big change from my little barn in Amherst.

I don't have a picture from the front, but this is the hill on the north side of our valley. There's a similarly sized one to the south. The valley's about a 1/4 mile wide at this point and gets narrower as you go west.

Actually, it's an older picture. Our former across the street neighbors used to leave that thing parked there all the time.

From my front porch earlier this year. Our poor Japanese maple didn't do well in the late frost we had this past spring. Normally it has twice the leaves as seen in the photo. And a year ago its roots filled our sewer lateral line and it's not gotten that kind of fertilizer since last November.

I bought my GS in Marietta near Atlanta and my first nights stop was at a lodge in Amiacola Falls? When I woke up for the first proper ride of my trip back to Seattle-10018 miles (some detours and only 22 miles interstate-getting out of Marietta) the view I saw from my window was just like your morning shot.

I live in an apartment complex out in the northern suburban outskirts of the Dallas area (in Frisco to be exact, for those of you playing along at home).
Not a whole lot to see out my door- in fact, if I look out the front door I see the wall of the breezeway, and it's painted grey.
But if I walk out the breezeway and look to my left, I see this:
http://vegomatic.smugmug.com/photos/222175954-M.jpg
That's my GTI in front of the garage.
To the right I see this:
http://vegomatic.smugmug.com/photos/222176207-M.jpg
At first glance it looks like an empty horizon, but note the office-building beyond the red truck...the next building to the right is a new Sheraton hotel being built, and barely visible to the right of that is the roof of JC Penney's HQ. Not visible but very close by are Frito-Lay's HQ, EDS' HQ, Countrywide's #2 office, a Westin resort, and a very expensive country-club.
This is the view from my patio:
http://vegomatic.smugmug.com/photos/222176023-M.jpg
That nearest row of air-conditioning compressors is right outside my bedroom window. I'm the only person in the neighbourhood who doesn't wait until it gets down to the 50's to turn off the A/C and open the windows, but that's often ruined by the noise of the compressors. :bluduh
Nearby you'll find all the usual suburban crap- lots of shopping, restaurants, more office-buildings, lots of gated neighbourhoods, etc. I hate it all. I'm thinking of moving back to the grit and character of northeast Dallas. On the other hand, out here I'm really close to the few good backroads that are do-able in an afternoon.

This is from our backyard about a week ago, just above our house. I spent a good part of today raking leaves from the big yellow-green tree — which is now a mostly leafless tree.

This is outside my front door at least once a year. :) Taken from my office window.

We live in a cabin in the woods and can only see trees and hills in any direction except in the back where there is a rock cliff and more woods. Seen from our living room are turkeys, squirrels, fox, deer, grouse, ground hogs, chipmunks, rabbits, various birds, and thousands of trees. Not so exciting as the NYC scene? A great place to grow old, as long as you can run a tractor and a string trimmer!

Someone asked for pix from our travels. Here are a couple from when we moved the house to a diferent location. Not quite the front door on the second pic but the first was from right behind our location at that time.

This one is our fierce guard dog in her attack position on my recliner.
