What's your favorite car magzine? I was raised on Car and Driver- even got a letter to the editor published once!

Just wondering what car mags YOU are into- and to see if theres something out there I've been missing...

CD, R&T and Automobile for me. Once in a while, I'll read CAR from the UK, but I'm not a huge fan.

If you read Motor Trend, point to your head and say its initials. Boring pap.

Vintage Motorsport, I like the old racing cars and the stories behind them.

Motorsport, from Great Britain, Probably the best vintage coverage but mighty expensive at Borders!

Smokey Yunnick's articles in late '50s, early '60s Popular Mechanics and Hot Rod.

It's been all downhill from there.

there is a very nice on-line magazine called "the winding road (http://www.windingroad.com/)"... edited by david e. davis (former ed of Car & Driver).

it's free, and has a nice interactive layout.

I grew up reading Car and Driver, and Yates, Davis, Weith, et al, were my heroes. Then I grew up, but still read it now and then.

My favourite now is Classic Motorsports; the collecter car scene from a North American perspective.

...Smokey Yunick....Paul Glaves

Hey Paul; I used to have "How to Hot Rod Small Block Chevies" by him. Great stuff.

"Da gospel from da Smoke"

Auto Motor und Sport. It is a German magazine but it has far more info than C&D or R&T plus you get to see cars that sadly aren't sold in the USA....:cry

I subscribed to both C&D and R&T in high school, as at the time I was a raving car-nut and thought about very little else (well, except for the usual adolescent-boy-stuff...). When I got to visit the slick big-city bookstores I'd bring home an issue of Car (always dug the English stuff- see Anglophile thread).

I'm not so much into cars these days, but for some interesting online-reading here's a fun one: http://bringatrailer.com/.
It updates frequently so check back often.

Thanks for that link, Veg; that's a fascinating site. I really liked the DB 2. Too bad about the V8 transplant, though.

Silly boy! You're not suppose to buy those expensive British mags. Borders and Barnes & Nobles place the magazine racks conveniently close to the cafe so you can read them while slowly sipping your coffee, chai, ect. One $3 Chai Latte is good for 2 $8 mags.

I just Tivo Motorweek. You can't beat John Davis, and Pat Goss. I might even have a thing going for that lovely Jessica Choksey :heart

I Tivo Motorweek as well, but they need to stop being so formulaic. Same shots for every car, same exact kind of text, as well. After watching this for 20 years, it's more than a little tedious.

And the benefit of Tivo is that I can fast forward through Pat Goss. :hide

BMW Car, TotalBMW, Bimmer, Mercedes Enthusiast, Forza, Roundel (except they have too many people writing too many editorials), BMW Magazine, Mercedes Classic.

These magazines and Russian Life, Nordic Reach, and similar make my day when they arrive. Then there's France and French and Living in Francemagazines and the motorcycle magazines and martial arts and woodworking and Cabin Life and electronics magazines.

Then I get the five daily papers in English to the Russian and Czech newspapers. Reading is fundamental!

Is there such a thing? All the Mercedes folks I ever met seemed more 'mildly interested' than 'enthused'. :whistle

Yes, Mercedes people (even though I've owned two) tend to be a little more reserved than BMW people. The ME magazine like most British publications tends to be brilliant. Unlike most British publications, except for some of the ads, there aren't any scantily clad ladies. Still, what I like about the magazine is it will feature a nice mix of the new, with the old, with the eccentric parts guy or repair shop and some of the Mercedes line.

One month, they had a Unimog. Another month, a G-Wagon, and another month, someone restored an old Mercedes work truck. It was kind of cool.

In my opinion, I wish BMW Magazine (published by the factory) should feature BMW cars and Motorrads if a private publisher won't do it.
