I saw Marcin today, he had an accident the other night, he's not sure what happened, but he lost control of a KTM he was riding, crashed and he woke up in a hospital 6 hours later.:sick
ATGATT saved him - his helmet, jacket and pants were toast - Doc has told him to stay off the bike for a while. KTM can be repaired.
He'll be OK. I think he's off MOA - so messages posted here won't be seen by him.
I just spoke to him. He said a raccoon ran out and under his wheel and he flew at @ 40mph over the bike and landed head first. At least that's what he was told. He does not remember. Must have been a big raccoon.
He won't be able ride or drive for a few weeks.
Only Marcin ... would be able to share a story like that ;)
Take Care Marcin

A beautiful day - wound up donning and plugging in my electric jacket liner around 12:30 when the sun vanished somewhere East of Lake Geneva.:D
I like the colors of the Wisconsin farmlands and forests this time of year.
Watch out for Bambi however.:nono
I gather the rest of the crew has parked their bikes for the season?:cry

+1 on Bambi, my greatest fear. I did a "stroll" ride around Lake Geneva a few times this fall. Haven't parked yet, but it's not far away. Such a sad time regarding riding, but trip planning for 2010 will be on the agenda soon.

If anyone knows the Chicago rider who is heading for the Tetons--planned to go to Redmond but his friends backed out--please tell him the rider he stopped to help on I-80 in WY is OK. I had sudden onset vertigo. I did try to continue after he stopped and helped me, but it was impossible and I waited for a trooper to come by and call an ambulance (no cell reception there.) I am much better now and truly appreciate his stopping to assist.

A couple days ago I'm at Old 53 and DuPage waiting for the light to change on my Vespa and here comes an RT heading north on 53, a male clad in shorts and a t-shirt. (oh no, where are the gear police?! I was wearing the same, I'm so ashamed)
Was that you?!

I can ... almost ... understand not being ATGATT, since it's been so hot around here lately. I happen to be doctors orders sidlined from riding for the next 3 months due to a cervical fusion, but I've still worn ATGATT in the summer. I'd rather be hot than to have to heal from road rash.

I guess I am not surfing on the net enough these days cause I would have loved to go get a Hot Dog! Got the GS out today and rode to work the loooong way and it felt WONDERFUL! I was worried about the cagers but surprisingly they were very respectful today.
Put saddle bags back on today and will be back on the road again tomorrow. Man I love Spring!!!!!!

I was up in Toronto from just before hallowe'en and back in Chgo mid-Dec. man is this Spring WEL-come!! Took a little ride a couple days ago, and off on another little spin today. Can't wait to get down to Seymour's and put on new shox and do the seasonal tune-up. I'm so stupid-giddy-happy about riding again I just had to reply.:boldpurpl

It has been quite a winter up in Toronto so this must feel almost like summer now! :clap
Looking forward to riding this morning but found I was running late. Hopped on the bike and started down the road. Made a steep left turn from a stop and "something" happened and the bike fell on the left side. There was not stopping it!!! I was pretty mad at myself because I was thinking about being late and not the ride itself. I guess it was a lesson learned early this summer and no major damage to me or the bike.:brow
Just a reminder for everyone to take it slow, go over your bike before you ride and THINK about what your doing and what is going on around you.
Be safe!

Apologies if this has been done before but I could not find what I was looking for and I want to test the waters for interest.
There are three things that I look for when I am looking at motorcycle tours: Friends, Support, and Expertise. Isn’t that why we pay for tours but that is not what tour operators advertise – they advertise the experience first and all else second. “See Copper Canyon … yada yada … and the friendly and experienced guides… yada yada"
So … I was thinking that I am satisfying what I want out of travel as an indirect result of paying the premium of an organized tour. I suspect others do the same. All we want is to go out and ride off the beaten path– swap stories – have a few drinks – and have someone call 911 if we break a leg
Let’s form a group for the express purpose of getting out there and supporting each other on a motorcycle without paying that premium. Here is my proposal:
• Let’s get together for an extended trip once year – about 5 days or so
• Optionally, overseas trip proposal - once every year – go/no-go depending on interest, e.g. ring tour of Iceland for two weeks
• Plus, twice a year – long weekend trips somewhere agreeable to most
That’s it. We all are busy people and it’s tough to find time to ride but if we agree to just a few ground rules – we’ll be on our way:
• We pay our own way
• Simple majority wins
• We try to make the trips
• We take care of each other on the road
We all have a common purpose that will satisfy our individual goals. In this way, we’ll be getting exactly what we want out of trip: Travel is better with friends; there is someone to help or call for help when things go wrong. What we are missing is the local and practical expertise that an experienced tour operator can provide but with all things being equal, I would prefer to learn with friends rather than from a tour company.
I'll sponsor the website and serve as an administrator. All are welcome regardless of location or bike.
~ curt

At the end of last year I lost my cousin rider buddy to a corporate move and earlier this year lost another rider friend who I had ridden with several times last summer and had planned to ride with almost everyday this summer. So needless to say I am looking for some people to ride with.

Did well over 150 miles yesterday and at some points could really feel the wind gusts moving my bike around.
Out the door at 5:30am, down the Eisenhower to Lake Shore Drive and that is where I could really feel the wind. On and off LSD up to Hollywood for breakfast and the Shuffle and then back on expressways out to DeKalb and finally back to Downers Grove.
Nice ride but at some points the wind was pretty bad.

The F8ST did quite well in the wind, I was surprised. I guess it presents a smaller profile than my RT. In a crosswind it was quite stable. Surprisingly the most bouncing I got was when I was headed into the wind.
Sure did feel good to be riding again.

I always liked smaller bikes in the wind,i like them under 500#with lower stand so they don't work like sailboats.Another think i noticed when riding Rt is when windshield was up felt like a tug boat trying fight the wind. All RT's with cupping of the front tire are caused by the weight of the wind pushing the tall windscreen down(wing/spoiler effect). You will be surprised how much is changed when a larger screen is used.At 70 mph you can double the down force on your front tire.

Heya Martin! :wave
I will let you know. Just popped a Cee Bailey + 2 on the RT last weekend. Definitely changes airflow over the top.

On my tiger when i went from stock to cee bailey i noticed allot down force and more grip in speeds over 55.when using my other screen with adjustable spoiler i can tune my front end traction(all those in higher speeds)Running tall windshield front tire pressure should be increased,at list i do with good results in performance.

I dont know who did but I wish they would stop already.
I did get out yesterday for my Sunday morning LSD ride
and it was a little chilly. I dont know what was worse, the
weather or the potholes coming out of the city on I-55....jeez.

I'm new to this site, and middle aged. I live near the lake (the big lake) north of the city. I saw the first few posts on this subject of a Suburban Chicago group, so I skipped 71 pages to get here.
Did this group ever get organized?

This is a VERY loosely (poorly?) organized group. :dunno However we've pulled off several weekends rides and a lot of Sunday rides.
The Chicago BMW MOA chapter, however is VERY organized with at least one ride a week from April thru November.:hug

Could meet at my place (Warrenville) for a 2hr loop through Geneva, La Fox, Burlington, South Elgin and back down to W'ville on Rt-25. The loop skirts all those towns, so it's mostly on farm roads. Steve can split off, if he needs to, at any point since the loop tends to go to the Northwest.
Let me know,

Much closer to you, Steve. Especially being on a tight schedule. I'm going, since I got clearance, to ride the backroads of Kane county leaving between 9-10:00. Should be great riding weather Sunday. Wish I had more time to take a full day ride.
Have fun,

I'd like to know more about people's riding style before I show up for a new group ride.
Typically, I ride with mama on the back and I'm pretty conservative -- 5 or 10 above the limit, and no off roading yet. We like 2 lanes and back roads and few four lanes. Though we were on Rte 41 heading home from WI yesterday at about +10mph when I could see a beemer coming up on my 6. He kept weaving and advancing 'till he passed me and I was surprised to see this guy on a new RT with nothing on his head but a ball cap. I would not want to ride with him.

When I'm riding - it's on a 2004 K1200GT - 130 hp to the rear wheels. Currently she is living at Martin's new house awaiting a ABS pump/computer transplant as those darn flashing lights on the dash were driving me crazy. I was also concerned that I'd evidently lost ABS for the rear wheel.
Full disclosure, while I love the sheer power of this K, I do miss the nice boxer engine (and simpler braking system) on the yellow R1150GS I sold a few years back. (Martin TOLD me to keep it and I ignored him. Duh.
We need to go riding again once the weather really does warm up!
