Welcome to the official New Glarus weekend thread! The dates are January 25, 26 and 27, 2008 so make your hotel reservations now: Chalet Landhaus 800-944-1716. This is the second year that we will share the lovely Landhaus with the Swiss Finishing School and the hotel will probably fill so don't delay on reservations if you think that you can come. The Swiss Finishing School is a group of quilters, not a group of Swiss young women.
This will be the third year that we descend upon the unsuspecting town of New Glarus, WI to eat, drink and chase away the mid-winter blues.

Because we are boring and unimaginative and it seems to work, the format will be the same as last year: Dinner Friday and Saturday at the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant and random tourist activities in between. The weekend is intentionally loosely planned so that you can join in when and where and with whomever you want. There is a LOT to do in the New Glarus area. The last two years activities have included the Mustard Museum, shopping and brewery tours. The Sugar River Trail runs behind the hotel and has great XC skiing. A potential Saturday excursion could be the PORT RELEASE CELEBRATION at the Wollersheim Winery in downtown New Glarus: A break from Wisconsin’s winter! Join us as we celebrate the release of our Port wine. Take a behind the scenes look at the making of our Port. Sample the Port and other Wollersheim wines available for tasting and by the glass. Enjoy live jazz, light food and insights on Port from our winemaker. No admission fee. Open to the public. 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Disclaimer: I do not expect people to ride their motorcycles to this gathering. Ride if you want, but motorcycle crashes due to riding on icy roads will not be tolerated (we know you’re a bad-ass, you don’t have to prove it to us). The whole point of this fieldtrip is to hang out with other motorcycle enthusiasts and to enjoy lovely New Glarus, WI and its fine culinary, cultural and scenic offerings. Details are below. Eventually I will need a head count for dinner.

This will be party central again and is within walking/stumbling distance of everything. They have wireless internet throughout the hotel, indoor pool, hot tub, steam room, sauna and exercise room and bar and restaurant on site. More importantly, they have a nice lobby with a fireplace where we can hang out. Bring some games, beverages and snacks to share if you’d like. Hot breakfast is included in the room price and is really good. I am not reserving a block of rooms – reservations are entirely on your own. Yes, there are other lodging options in the area but this place takes really good care of us.

Madison has Olbrich botanical gardens. They have a huge indor facility too, tropical rain forest. Also The home of SEVERAL great brew hauses.

Just remembered, because we're coming from Central Pa. (with its Germanic culture not totally unlike parts of Wisconsin :german ), we're bringing along some of the local delicacies that go great with beer: Revonah hard pretzels (hand made and the best) and Utz potato chips. Our area is a minor snack food capitol (privately owned companies as opposed to Frito Lays of the world) with lots of chip and pretzel factories that make goodies to share. :wave

Things are not working out for me to come ):
Sometimes the best plans are screwed up and you have to go and do priorities and deal with things you otherwise would like to just shove off on somebody else. I can't; the buck stops here, and I have to stay here.
Heads up, I cancelled my room reservations when I found out, so Fri and Sat nights have opened up if they were full.

Ben, it was great to meet you and Kelly! I'm so glad that you made the trip out and that you had fun.
I love your pictures! Maybe next year I'll have a G9 too..... :D
Thanks Rebecca. Nice to meet you too. You could have tried my G9 if you wanted (didn't think to ask :blush ). You've established a nice tradition with the New Glarus weekend. It's a wonderful setting to meet other riders when the weather makes riding impractical. Do it again and we'll be back next year!!! :nod
Ok. See how this works. If I did this correctly...hmmmm

PS, Viki and I had a super time. Thanks so much Rebecca for this.
Great shots Jack! :thumb Thanks for sharing them. Between you, me and Rebecca, I think we caught the ambiance of the weekend and most of the action. Nice to meet you and Viki. :wave

Next year is already in the works since people insist on coming back every year. :D
- I'll try to get some swag next year from a couple of vendors
- I think we should go to a different restaurant for Saturday dinner next year
Also, one of the local cheese makers has offered to do a wine and cheese pairing/tasting for us. I need to work out the details, but that could be fun for Saturday (thanks NancyK).
Any other ideas or suggestions??:ear

Well the food's good...ok great, but the dancing is great. Then there is the beer...too.
Oh wait, I actually wanted to know how to post a bunch of pictures in one post...and also how to post one picture and have it link to a gallery. Is that somewhere on this site?
I found it on the SmugMug site.

Next year I will be sure to bring two bottles of German Jagermeister to share. I do not even remember how many bottle we went through in our room. :german That seemed to go over quite well for those of you who partook in the taste test. I am glad nobody had too difficult of a time finding there way to the restaurant after that.
Thank you to all for the nice memories. And the super pictures.

I just wanted to thank everyone, especially Rebecca. Nancy and I had an absolutely incredible weekend. Food, drink, friends, and a weekend away from our beloved son.
Thanks everyone. Loved the picks.

So let me see if I can get the combos right. Red Bull and Stoli? Cranberry and Stoli? And then Jaeger (if I recall Jaegermeister means hunt master in German, help here). But please tell me you weren't chasing Jaeger with Red Bull!
Where were the Flaming Car Bombs?!

And my wife and I would like to add our thanks to those already posted. Especially to Randy, Jeff and Mary for being our hosts for the Saturday tour.
Mo said that she enjoyed you all and had a great time. Of course, I did too.
And thanks, RebeccaV.
"I'll be back." :clap
