Good morning.
Left minneapolis metro yesterday. One last trip before the snow starts to fly. Arrived in Des Moines to meet up with my nephew Justin. He will be riding his Dad's Kawasaki.
the RS had a bad twich on the way in to town. Yep, rear shock is leaking pretty bad.
Plan is to keep running for texas. Ordered a Progressive out of California and shipped it to Waxahachie, Texas.
No dealership in Des Moines! Sad.
Ever use a car shock? Just to get somewheres?
Yep, had checked the flea market and ibmwr list as well.
Adventure 101... eh?

Had I been in Des Moines needing a shock I would have taken the detour east to Gina's BMW in Iowa City.
But -
Be very careful. As the oil leaks out you lose rebound damping. Eventually the rear of the bike behaves like a pogo stick and that can dump you in a hurry if you encounter bumpy pavement.
Be careful!

Two things come to mind with a leaky rear shock.
1. The unending bounciness of the pogo stick as PGlaves has mentioned. You can deal with that and get used to it...not fun, but not a big deal.
2. The leak, if it gets bad may smear oil on your rear disc rotor...and that is a big safety issue...BUT again...if that happens, ride accordingly and cautiously, until you can get the shock sorted. Then clean the rotors AND pads...

95k1100RsTim - There are some aftermarket car shocks that are called "coil-over" that use a coil spring on the shock, but I can't imagine they would come with a spring suitable to use on a bike (due to the difference in weight.) These usually are fairly expensive and come in sets of 2.. probably not a good idea.
If you call a GOOD dealer (I'd suggest Morton's in VA) - they can normally overnight a part to you, and may even have the shock in stock, or at worst have it next day.
I've done that on the road when I had a problem - and had the part I needed within 2 days.

Howdy!
I am in waxahachie, texas.
The RS is sitting in the garage with a new Progressive rear shock.
Thanks for all who wrote and gave me your sugestions! Decided to ship the shock to Texas from an aftermarket supplier in california. We arrived here friday afternoon and the rear shock was replaced within an hour.
Tested the RS out... Good deal!
I had called the dealer in Kansas. Knew of course they would need to order it. This is my second Progressive shock although way different than the one for the k100RT.
moa web Works!
Now if the hf radio would get back to working... I know wrong web site... heh
Thanks!
