View Full Version : Clutch release boot leaking
Picked up my uncles 87 K100rs 3 weeks ago. Thing is running very nice. I was installing the new rear shock yesterday and noticed a leak in the rear. I looked up the parts in my Clymers manual and it looks like its the clutch release boot has some oil around it.
I'd like to know what could be the part/issue that is causing this. The bike shifts and runs fine but I need to get the drip stopped so I have a piece of mind. Looks like the dis-assembly of that area is simple enough but I'd like to know if this is a bigger problem than I'm hoping. I'll go outside now nd take a pic of the leak using the sun for lighting. I tried to take a pic last night using a flash, nothing nut blur.
Thanks

You just have to remove the lower end of the clutch cable (so the arm will pivot down), and then loosen the clamp to get the boot off. If the boot itself doesn't look torn, the transmission may be overfilled. But if the boot is original, it probably needs to be replaced.
To reinstall, I like to put the boot on, then reattach the lower end of the clutch cable so the arm will hold the boot in place while I install the clamp.

Heres a pic of the ripped boot. Looks simple enough to fix. Once the boot is replaced that should keep the oil from leaking, corrrect?
One more thing....... What did my uncle do to achieve being in this group? I have all his BMW gear, patches, plaques and awards from his years of riding. I hope he is looking over meeverytime I'm outriding. Wish I could have riden with him.

Wow, that bike is spotless under there!! Yes, changing the boot should fix the problem.
I thought membership in the Wile Coyote group was automatic when you could prove you got a speeding ticket over 100mph? I may be thinking about another group tho.
Thanks for the help. I took it out this afternoon, no leaks, but I'm going to order the boot tomorrow.
My uncle was a bit of a clean freak and I guess he passed it onto me. Its nice having a clean piece of history. Heres a pic from today.
