Hi all.. I am new to the street world comming from the dirtville. I have a few questions:

1. I am at 375miles on my bike and am about to hit the 600mi service mark. In my 2007 300 KTM and 07 KX450F I run Synthetic, is this a good idea for my K bike? If so, what weight should I run? Also, do I need the valve inspection at this time? My dealer said no, but the warranty book says yes???

2. I would also like to replace the muffler for several reasons. Any good suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

I would change the oil at 600 miles and see how the oil consumption is for the next 3K to 6K miles. If it is minimal, then I would use BMWs synth 10W40 or 15W50 synth which is specified for wet clutch bikes.

Thanks Chuck for your input... I was starting to wonder if joining this site was the wise thing to do. I didn't think my questions were off the wall or something??

I see you an Extra Ham Operator... I have had a General ticket for almost 30-years (WD5BJR). I still have some equipment, but nothing setup at the moment including a Drake C-Line with a nice L4B!

thanks again,

manny

Hi,
No. Good question. Not too many K12S riders on this frequency. I also wanted to say to use BMW 10W40 dino or 10W50 dino (if it's over 90 deg F) until you go to synth? No 20W anything. No "Energy Saving Oils" like for cars.
Ok on the Ham ticket. I get on 75 (3710KHz) about every morning with a bunch of lids from the states around. I too have a C line and an L7, but seldom use a linear. Some riceboxes too. My daily rig is an Omni 6+. It's been a great transceiver and also breaks once in awhile so that I can have fun fixing it. As you may know, it's built almost like a kit so it's kind of fun to work on. There are even some SMDs in it so they are into the 21st century at TenTec.
73, Chuck (Jack)

I like it here. Here is good, but not too much K12S 4 cyl activity.
The go fast guys are on:

That might be a good place to look for aftermarket muffler info. But don't let the mechanical maladies scare you. I think there are some who redline from stoplight to stoplight on that site.

Here are my favorite K12S sites: http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/ and http://www.i-bmw.com/index.php?. Also, you should know about Pirates Lair, which is a great place for aftermarket stuff. See: http://www.piratesk12site.net/.

Enjoy your K bike.

Have been going with BMW 10W40, 15k and no complaints. Went to a pipe from Two Brothers Racing. Great note, nice boost mid range. Was advised valve adjustment beteen 15k and 18k.
