The last BMW I owned was a 1995 R100RT Classic and it was a dog. I was told that either you got a good one or a bad one of the last year of the airhead. I have owned R90 S, R90/6 and Still do own a R75/5 toaster. I have found a 2002 R1150Rt with 19k on it. It just had the 18k service done on it. It has new tires and brakes. It has the PIAA lights on the front forks and pullbacks and lowered pegs. I know nothing of the Oilheads but hear a lot of good stuff. Any insight would be appreciated. I can get this bike for 7,500. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Barry

Everyone ought to be careful when advising others on how to spend their money - the risk is with the advisee, not the advisor. Having said that, I can tell you that my '03 R1150RT is the best motorcycle I've ever owned - I've been riding since my college days in the 50's. It is very agile and on the slab it is a dream to ride.
Whenever I buy a new used Beemer I have the local BMW dealership do a check on the bike for major problems - they have always charged me one hour shop time. I've never had a seller refuse. In my opinion, it's insurance money well spent.
As for the '02 you're looking at, it sounds like a good buy to me, but I'd have it checked out before I buy. Others will opinionate, I'm sure.

My 2002, R 1150 RT cost me $8900 last year and it had a little more than 28K miles on it. I got it from a dealer and it had a ton of Farkles and chrome bits on it, but it, too, has been the best bike I've ever had. (It is bike #8). I've got about 13K more miles on it now, just rode it to Montana (from KC-about 2700 miles round trip) and haven't had a moment's problem with it.
Do take the above advice, get it checked out by a qualified mechanic and then get your money ready--you won't regret it! That is a great price for those few miles. -- rock

I bought a 2002 RT in 2004 with 10K miles. I have now put another 20K on it and have had to replace the clutch spline ($3000), the ABS hydraulic pump ($3300), the heated grip right side ($300). Had a two year problem with it stalling when going down hill that the dealer could never fix. Got it fixed by the local BMW doctor (Fuel Filter) The service through the local dealer has been terrible. The main problem is I commute on it and like to take a couple of long rides in the summer and it is the nicest riding bike I have ever been on. Solution: I'm picking up my new R1200RT on Friday.

I bought my '02 R1150RT last November with 21K miles. Paid $9500 but it had several nice after-market add-ons. I added a Techlusion which made a BIG improvement in the surge problem. I've had no tranny input spline or FD problems. Just completed a 4400K mile trip to California with no problems other than valve stem failures on both wheels (not a BMW problem). I think the price on yours seems very good.

If the bike checks out mechanically it is a good price. Bought a 2002 in 2004 with 3000 miles on it. Have 37,000 miles now with no problems. A great bike if you like to personalize. Added throttle lock, sargent seat, gps, elf pegs, signal minder among others.
Ridden this bike aggressively from Ky to Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, SD, Colorado, Utah, Kansas, Tenn, Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas.
Fully loaded with camping gear the bike almost feels better in the twisties, the rear end just sits right in place with no give. Great for sweeping curves. Just returned from Arkansas’ Ozark Mts, great riding and hauled home from early morning till the evening, stopping only for gas; ran hard and it was hot, bike was great.
When alone I ride this like a sport bike, in groups ride like a cruiser. One of the best all purpose street bikes ever built. This bike felt just broke in at 20,000 miles. My riding partner has just hit 100,000 on his 1100RT.
Riding street bikes since 1979.

yup, looks like an 1150 RT to me. pretty clean too, but that's what i would expect for one with such low mileage.

....you are gonna love it!!!
I highly recommend using the center stand. I didn't have my side stand completely "cocked" one time, resulting in my one and only drop and standing in my own driveway.
Farkles, I recommend:
Trunk: it is amazing how often you will toss stuff in there just because it is easy.
Handlebar rizers: just to avoid leaning over on long trips.
Dashboard Gerbing's heat control: it is a lot easier to plug in the heated clothing from lines under the seat and deal with heat control on the dash, rather than a belt attachment.
and of course, the garage door opener on the dash!! -- ha.
Enjoy, this is a "world scooter", easy to ride around town and will go fast enough to get you places around the state.
