I just bought a 2001 R1100RL three weeks ago. It had 3900 miles on it. I had the dealer change the oil and flush the hydraulics before I took delivery. It now has 6200 miles on it. I don't have a service schedule, but I am thinking it is supposed to be serviced at 6000 miles. Is this something I should have the dealer do or can I do it myself? what all is involved?

I am eager to get back on the road, I love this bike.

6000 miles oil change, valve adjust, throttle body synch. Check other stuff. Oilhead maintenance is really well documented with a manual in pdf file here:

These bikes are really easy to do maintenance on and there are lots of resources including a dvd put out by Paulbach (I think) that you can find with a search of this site and order.

Good wrenching!:wave

btw- what the hell is a R1100RL? did you mean to say R1100RSL (RS with Lowers)?

no, R1100RL is correct - it's an R1100R with black paint, white pinstripes, spoked (GS style) wheels, chrome valve covers. I will get around to posting a picture someday...

Yeah I was perplexed too. But I guess it really exists!

HOw, exactly, do I go about locating the service dvd by jim VonBaden? I'm interested. Is it an extensive resource or does it just cover routine services (oil changes, etc.)?

Thanks.
