I finally sold my 2004 K1200GT. It was funny, the day I drove it away from the dealership where I had it on consignment for 6 months, it sold. I got $9,600 for it; a fair price considering all the badges of movement it had incurred.

As my divorce reaches its very difficult and expensive conclusion I find that I'm between motorcycles and girlfriends. This is a wonderful social place to be because there are lots of looking, an occaisional test ride but no obligation to buy. I'm seeing an interesting trend in pricing that I thought I would report.

I'm looking for a new KGT or KRs or even a KS. Here's what I'm seeing:

The KGT can be had with low, low miles for under $16k. Unblemished, untarnished and really not broken in. You will see them commonly for 17 or 18 but I've seen them as low as $14,996 with all the goodies on them. Ebay usually has a few and not by slacker sellers with no experience, but from larger dealers trying to move inventory.

It's winter and not exactly the time to buy bikes and apparently, the 08s of some models have been released.

The Mighty K1200S is also out there to be had at a discount. New they are in the 18K range but I have seen them as low as 13k too. Again, the forums at IBMWR, the K-bikes site and ebay have a few of them floating around. They seem to be mostly low mileage and fully outfitted but well below suggested retail.

The K1200R is the bike that I have my sights set upon. I have seen them as low as 11,500 on ebay but much higher from private sellers. My local dealer pointed me to a guy selling one without ESA and the guy paid 16 but wanted 14. I told him I had seen bikes with lower mileage and all the options going for 12k consistently. He wasn't too happy. Ebay has dealers with bikes on the site moving along, or not moving, hence the basement pricing.

So, I wrote this to say this seems to be a good opportunity for someone to get into a late model K bike and bargains are out there to be found if you look a bit. Anyone else know of places to get premium rides like these at better prices?

Oh, and a demo bike can be bought and financed by BMW for 6.99% if your credit is good. Personally, I find that a bit high but I like using their money for now. Perhaps I can do better locally.

Best,
