I know the secret to their success... I worked on their stadium this April. Last baseball stadium I worked on was the St. Louis Cardinals... yup the year they won the Series.

Mariners fan here as well, but wife is a Cubs fan, too. Tonight she's wearing her Cubs 2003 Division Champion hat and trying to figure out how to turn the 2003 into a 2007...

One of the last great ballparks, Brad, possibly only rivaled by Fenway. Work your magic, we need all the help we can get.
Even Holy Moises could not help us in '03!
What in the heck could demand the need for all those racks?

Aha, sound.
Yeah well loud isn't necessarily good.
Yes, we have a provincial sound system. That being said it's good to see they are not only upgrading but enlisting the best in that effort. :thumb
9 times the amps in that rack?
You are kidding.

Regardless of the outcome, I would say the Padres have had a successful season. They will finish ahead of the Dodgers and in my books, that makes a successful season for my guys from San Diego.

And once the World Series starts, I will be pulling for the National League team.

Life-long Dodger fan, also root for the home team Mariners, married to a Cub fan so I'll defend the Cubbies against a guy from Wisconsin.

Perhaps you support the Brewers over the Cubs? The Brewers - the team formerly known as the Seattle Pilots, before it was stolen away from us back in the late 60's? (We never forget a stolen team!)

Confirm your allegiance to the Brewers so the flogging may commence immediately! :nyah

I bleed blue and gold and have since 1970 when I walked to the stadium and paid $.50 to sit in the bleachers. The team was so new that the popcorn boxes had the Seattle logo blacked out and the Brewer logo printed over it. :D

Actually, I'm not hardcore but I do follow the Brew Crew as much as I can. As far as the Cubbies (Or any other Illinois team for that matter) I am bound by the cheese in my veins to NEVER let the fight against the deadly FIB end...:nyah

If I were into sports, I wonder what I would think the state of things. Even though it was baseball-season during the summer, the Cowboys still got more mention on the local news than the Rangers (although the Rangers had better billboards along the freeways). Basketball and hockey are around the corner too, and this with our basketball-team's colourful owner on Dancing With Stars and our hockey-team still enjoying a golden-age after taking home Stanley a few years ago (who would have ever guessed that TexSux would become a hockey-loving place???).
I guess the fact that I'm NOT into sports makes it all more interesting to observe.

Ah yes - the "Brew Crew": stolen from Seattle, pimped by the Commissioner/owner, and home of the amazing collapsing stadium. Formerly of the Junior Circuit, unwelcome interloper into the Senior Circuit - need I go on? :)

Ah yes - the "Brew Crew": stolen from Seattle, pimped by the Commissioner/owner, and home of the amazing collapsing stadium. Formerly of the Junior Circuit, unwelcome interloper into the Senior Circuit - need I go on? :)

Stolen from Wikipedia (paraphrased) :

To the surprise of no one outside Seattle, the Pilots were terrible. They won their very first game, and then their home opener three days later, but only won five more times in the first month and never recovered. They finished last in the West with a record of 64–98, 33 games out of first.

However, the team's poor play was the least of its troubles. The most obvious problem was Sick's Stadium. The longtime home of the Pacific Coast League Seattle Rainiers, it had been considered one of the best ballparks in minor league baseball. By the 1960s, however, it was considered far behind the times. While a condition of MLB awarding the Pilots to Seattle was that Sick's had to be expanded to 30,000 seats by the start of the 1969 season, only 17,000 seats were ready due to numerous delays. The scoreboard was not even ready until the eve of opening day. While it was expanded to 25,000 by June, the added seats had obstructed views. Water pressure was almost nonexistent after the seventh inning, especially with crowds above 10,000. Attendance was so poor (678,000) that the Pilots were almost out of money by the end of the season. The team's new stadium was slated to be built at the Seattle Center, but a petition by stadium opponents ground the project to a halt.

During the offseason, Soriano crossed paths with Selig. They met in secret for over a month after the end of the season, and during Game 1 of the World Series, Soriano agreed to sell the Pilots to Selig for $10 million to $13 million (depending on the source). Selig would then move the team to Milwaukee and rename it the Brewers. However, the owners turned it down in the face of pressure from Washington's two senators, Warren Magnuson and Henry (Scoop) Jackson, as well as state attorney general Slade Gorton. MLB asked Soriano and Daley to find a local buyer. Local theater chain owner Fred Danz came forward in October 1969 with a $10 million deal, but it fizzled when the Bank of California called in a $4 million loan it had made to Soriano and Daley for startup costs. In January 1970, Westin Hotels owner Eddie Carlson put together a nonprofit group to buy the team. However, the owners rejected the idea almost out of hand since it would have devalued the other clubs' worth. A more traditional deal came one vote short of approval.

Pilots uniforms. After a winter and spring full of court action, the Pilots reported for spring training under new manager Dave Bristol unsure of where they would play. The owners had given tentative approval to the Milwaukee group, but the state of Washington got an injunction on March 17 to stop the deal. Soriano immediately filed for bankruptcy—a move intended to forestall any post-sale legal action. At the bankruptcy hearing a week later, Milkes testified there was not enough money to pay the coaches, players and office staff. Had Milkes been more than 10 days late in paying the players, they would have all become free agents and left Seattle without a team for the 1970 season. With this in mind, Federal Bankruptcy Referee Sidney Volinn declared the Pilots bankrupt on April 1—six days before Opening Day—clearing the way for them to move to Milwaukee. The team's equipment had been sitting in Provo, Utah with the drivers awaiting word on whether to drive toward Seattle or Milwaukee.

Beside you got Holmgren (We got to keep Bret) :clap

I think the collapsing stadium reference is a bit tacky since several workers lost thier lives there. :nono

I was born in 1966 a full 12 years after the Indians had last been to the World Series. My grandfather, who played triple A ball for the Detroit Tigers farm system back when Ruth still swung a bat, took me to my first indians game when I was 6 years old. I fell in love with the tribe that day...the field, the team, the uniforms...etc. 1995 and 1997 were exciting years for me. I always thought that just making the playoffs would be enough...it wasn't. I needed to see them play in the big dance. That turned out to also not be enough. I greatly desire to see the Tribe be World Champs. It may not be this year....it may not be next year; but, it IS going to happen!!!!!! I am sooooo ready for Thursday to get here!!!!
GO TRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!:clap

Post season or not, my guys finished ahead of the Dodgers and that, in my mind, is what counts the most. From now until the World Series, I am officially neutral. Once the Series starts, I will throw my whole hearted support behind the NL champions. After all, real baseball is played by 9 players not 10. Had the fathers of baseball intended the game to be played by 10 players, we would all be playing slow-pitch softball :D

I don't think Lou had any idea what he was getting into with the Cubs....after all, he'd played on Major League Baseball teams...managed Major League Teams... but once he figured out what the Cubs really were, he did a pretty darned god fix with whatever parts he had. I predict he and Hendry will have an interesting winter and next year we'll see a Cubs team like none in the past 100.
If they can get rid of that hot-dog Soriano, and find another deRosa, Theriot or Fontenot, they'll be a fun club to watch.
