I recently (5000 miles ago) purchased my first BMW, a 1978 R100/7 with only 9000 miles on it. I really like the bike. My wife traded up to a 2002 1150R from a 883 Sportster. After riding her bike a few times, I thought I would like it more than mine until I took it on a 200 mile ride. After 100 miles I wanted off. It hurt my knees and butt too much. I can ride the R100 all day with no issues. I see a 1995 1100RS for sale and I wonder if it wil have the same fit as her 1150R? I am around 5"10'' . Any suggestions?

the r1100rs has lower bars and hey are rubber mounted, and that turned me off. I think the seating and knee bend is not bad though, so if you don't mind the low bars it is probably quite comfortable. I rode a couple of RS's on demo rides. One of hem was fine, but the other vibrated a lot and the rubber mounted bar only seemed to ampilfy he vibrations, putting my hands to sleep.
i bought the R1100RL.

I have a 2004 R1150RS (younger brother to the R1100RS). I am 5'10" (30" inseam), and I really like the seating position. The bars are adjustable front-back within about 1.5", and the seat has three positions. I have the bars all the way back, and the seat in the lowest position.
I have put 10,500 miles on this bike, and I find it versatile and comfortable. So far, I have not noticed excessive vibration in the bars, but I suppose mine may be adjusted differently.

Hi John,
I ride a '95 R100RSL (L -> fairing lowers + other stuff). Compared to the R1150R there's more forward lean, but not as much as an R11xxS. There'd be less weight on your backside but more on the wrists.
After about 30K on the stock saddle, I changed to a Sargent. Once I got through a 500-700 mile breakin period, I loved it! Since then, I've had a couple of 1k+ days with very little discomfort at the end of the ride. I've got about 40k on the new saddle, wish I'd put it on sooner.
