I live in Alabama, and just paid $1.60 a gallon for the 89 grade that I run in my Ranger truck.
Premium -- which I run in the K, is at $1.80.
So now I'm curious about what others are paying in other parts of the country.

Quit whinning and come to Canada if you want to see high gas prices. Currently premium sells for $0.769 per Litre, which after conversion to US gallons and US dollars equals $2.19 per gallon. And the price is down right now. It was up over $0.90 per Litre a while ago.
I can't wait for spring when I can ride my bike to work again, I can't afford to drive my truck much longer:cry

yeah, but how much are you paying PER MILE?
gas is $1.70-something here. i pulled up last week, a lday was already filling her Ford Expletive with gas. i dismounted, put the bike on the center stand, dorked with my credit card, put the gas in, dorked some more.
she was still filling.
i think i put in 3 gallons, and it cost 5 bucks or so. she says, 'wow that was fast!' and i said, 'i guess. five bucks for 160 miles is pretty good. but i wish i had a big car like yours so i could talk on the phone and zone out while im driving.' and she says, and i swear i am not making this up, 'yeah, it's nice to be able to do that.' :(

Here in Cleveland Tn. -- premium for the K is $1.76 to $1.82 per/gal and diesel for my truck (when not on the bike is $157.9 per/gal) I can relate with the previous post about the Ford lady still filling up her behemoth. My diesel has about 50 gallon tank. At least it gets 15 mpg.

So do I!
Two years back we were actually paying less than $.70 a gallon for the regular stuff and under a buck for premium. Now, Georgia prices have fluctuated by as much as 30 cents a gallon in two weeks or less. I just filled my GMC truck with the cheap stuff at my nearest Kroger gas station and it cost me $1.45 nine with my Kroger card discount (discount of $.03 per gallon). Add 20 cents more for premium and you basically have "current" Georgia prices, give-or-take a nickle or dime here and there depending on location.
Remember the days when gas prices SLOWLY increased by pennies a week or a month? Now, we have $.10 or even $.20 a gallon increases overnight! What happened? Have the Oil companies become that brazen with price increases that they fear not any repercussion for their actions? I think they have.
So, what are American's to do about it then, right? I say screw the Oil companies and ride our gas sipping (ok, maybe not for all) motorcycles everywhere and for anything possible! Which I'm going to start doing again this week now that the snow is melted and I may ride in comfort again (sorry for the weather jab to anyone living in colder regions. I am originally from the Northeast part of Ohio and understand the MONTHS of cold).
Locking my cage keys away until my now thin southern blood panzies out from the cold.
Big Oil needs to fall!
Ride on and ride safely!

Sorry, I think California is being drug over the coals. Granted we have some pretty good weather, but the 'special' blend of gas they force on us is supposedly driving up the price. B.S. Just wait until you head west. Some of the itty bitty gas stations in remote locations have gas prices pushing $3/gallon.
I once watched a Ford Expedition fill up at the gas station on the north end of Bridgeport, CA. The total bill was $80. One the plus side, they'll be able to go just as far as a GS Adventure with that much gas.

I thought with the banning of MTBE, the formulation would be
more in line with the rest of the US.
What I don't like is the perception that prices are not based on
what's in the tanks or at the gas factory production line. It's like
the price at the pump is based on what comes out of the ground
today.

One of my first jobs was working in a Shell station. Directly across the street was an Arco station.
When the guy across the street raised his prices, the owner of the Shell station would raise his to match. This was, of course, in the mid 70s and gas prices could be volatile.
Anyway, after a while of having the exact same price, the Shell station owner would lower his prices by enough that the Arco guy would have to follow suit.
The wierd thing was that they'd do this even if their cost of fuel hadn't changed!

I haven't looked since I got back from LA. It was 2.15 for regular at almost every station, and some were at 2.20 for regular while I was out there. I think state taxes play a part in what you pay at the pump. Someone has to pay for all those extra signs warning you about all the harmful things you have all around you in California. I wasn't aware smoking was dangerous until the big sign in the hotel told me, and I didnt know gasoline was harmful to me till I saw the extra signs in california telling me that. It is pretty out there, all the palm trees next to 500,000 dollar two bedroom bungalows crammed next to each other. How does anyone make enough money to live where it costs so much? Guess that is why a grocery bagger makes 16 bucks an hour, and they don't want Wal mart to come in and pay 7 bucks an hour. You would have to take the bus and live in a cardboard box if you made that kind of money in southern california. It was just too amazing and almost too sad to comprehend.

And like Canada, it is so mysterious that with five different retailers in the little town of Lowell, they all have the same price.

It’s amazing that fuel prices are so high in Canada. Since the dollar is weak, and the price on oil is tied to dollars, I would think you should see lower prices as of late… Unless the bulk of that is in taxes.

1. Reason two gasoline station owners across the street from each other raise or lower their prices in response to what the other does, even if no change in their cost to purchase gasoline? Capitalism 101.
2. Reason gasoline in California generally costs more than in other places in the U.S.? California requires special gasoline blends that cost more to make, and there is a limited number of refineries that have the equipment to make it.
3. Reason gasoline in Canada (and in many other countries) costs more than in U.S.? Generally, most other countries have much higher taxes on gasoline than the combined federal/state taxes on gasoline in the U.S.
At least we ride vehicles that get 40+mpg! :)

Corporate Socialism me thinks. side note: Why do you think that the little urban designed electric car (two companies actually)- designed and produced in Canada- cannot even get on the street here because of Transport Canada's ever changing regs. Follow the money on that one also. Both electric car manufacturers are heading to the U.S. where forward thinking still prevails (so it seems) for that sector. Gas price here: reg= $4.00/U.S. Gal. However, if you travel in Europe even our cost is a bargain. -Bob

To my knowledge, the highest octane we have readily available in Iowa is 92 and it's right about $3.08 and not much difference in Omaha. I only use premium in my rads and turbo. Yeah, I know, less expensive will work.
Just fyi, I paid $93 USD to fill 'er up in Hungary at and Autobahnstation this summer. That was 40L of benzene and 1L of oil. Full service - apparently no choice at that station just like in Oregon. He did check and fill the water as that, along with the oil, keep leeing from my nifty 60k kilomoter Opel Astra. And air leaked from the tire. Some of the charge was the exchange rate but fuel is more espensive in Europe.

91 cents/litre for regular in the Edmonton area. 97 cents for mid-grade and I think $1.02 for premium. Even though the price of crude has gone up well over $90.00/barrel, the price of gasoline in this market has remained the same over the same period of time. It might have something to do with the strengthening Canadian dollar which closed yesterday at $1.05.98 US

SUV's are gonna be a big albatross around people's necks. Especially if they're upside down on the SUV or worse, took out a second loan on their home to buy an SUV AND they're upside down.

Helen used the truck this AM to move some things and pulled into local station while attendant was changing prices...up .10 in one day to $3.39 for diesel. She drove home and was parking it.
Happy Holidays all! It's going to be expensive to go to grandmas house this year isn't it?

One of the national "news" shows this morning stated that home heating oil (which is used in the N.E.) is supposed to cost to heat the average (whatever average is) home in the N.E. about $1,800 for the next six months. All those poor little old ladies and old people are screwed. It's going to get much worse, and I'm not a pessimist by nature.
I think $60 bills for heat (electric) or AC is bad. Wouldn't be much fun to pay $300 or more a month.
On your diesel, remember when diesel was much less expensive than petrol besides the better mileage?

When I bought my first diesel, fuel was at least $1 less than regular. I used to chuckle at cheaper price and higher mileage than my gasoline using friends...at least at 22-25 MPG I am not hurting as some, especially since I am on two wheels most of time. Prices used to jump by pennies, now moved up to two digits. And I sold all my EXXON stock:banghead about the time the Shaw was ousted.

have a daughter in Redondo Beach, always thought the prices were way higher than anywhere in CA. TX and CA seem to be close at moment, not that that is a bragging thing by any means.

:german Oklahomans are paying about 2.89 for 87, 2.99 for 89 and 3.09 for 91 Octane.
That was as of this morning. Our gas prices rise about 10-12 cents a shot and come back down only 1 penny at a time. This also depends on the station that you frequent..
Go figure..:usa :dunno
