:wave :usa Well, today as I sat with my first coffee of the day, I listened to an NBC Squawk Box report on how droves of Canadians are pushing south for at least 48 hours to purchase goods with an 'at par' dollar. Quoting the views of many U.S. retailers, they went on to say that this should make for a very lucrative Christmas holiday season for most border state retailers. U.S. retailers are grinning as Canadian consumers merrily shop on. I'm sure on-line buying is also at an all time high. Back home here retailers are likely fearing the worst. Like I have often quipped: No matter what happens "one third get better; one third get worse; and, one third stay the same". -Bob:

My kid is in school in BC. He enrolled a year ago, and I budgeted accordingly. Now, I am taking a bath on the tuition.

Well the ice has melted at the North Pole. I was worrying Santa may have moved to China.

When I deliver my International Aid to Canada by spending a few days in Montreal. I will have to wait at the Border because everyone will be getting stopped to get checked for cheap US products.

Hurry up Canada, China and Europe are buying America.

A funny memory: a few years ago I took my (then) 14 year old on a bike trip down into Maine along coastal 1. After spending a bit of time on the road my son said "gee dad, everything's for sale here!" I know it's not true (:dunno ) but in contrast to his experience in eastern Canada it certainly seemed so.

Not sure that I really know who is actually benefiting (manufacturing/retailing-wise) in the long run. Seeing a possible tax cash cow, the Canadian government might even impose a consumer surcharge on goods....and then tax the total being brought over the border :banghead -Bob

I heard the Canadian chain Roots should be coming to a American. We were hooked on them ever since they did our Olympic team wear about 8 years ago. Tim Horton's will be next to Wendy's soon as well.
Oddly enought the Roots founders are American! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roots_Canada_Ltd.

I read somewhere yesterday that the US apologized to China about the recalls ! What the ..................... are we thinking ?:banghead :banghead :banghead

Actually, it was Mattel that apologized not the United States as a whole. It would seem that Mattel is taking the blame for not being extremely explicit wrt their specifications in terms of materials and overall quality. The very next day, another recall of Chinese manufactured goods by a different company. Go figure.
