I'm a bourbon guy. It's really the only American contribution to liquor. I prefer the earty tones of bourbon to the flowery taste of scotch, though I'm not sure why.

My current fave (and it changes periodically) is WL Weller 19 yo wheated, though Knob Creek is probably the longest running standard for me.

Also worth a taste:

Woodford Reserve
Maker's Mark
Basil Hayden
Van Winkle
Evan Williams Single Barrel
Elijah Craig Single Barrel
Eagle Rare
Buffalo Trace

oh god no

Jager is cough syrup flavored rat poison. I had one too many enounters with one too many shots of the stuff in my youth. -sound of tummy burbling- A friend of mine likes, what do you call it?, a mixed drink of Red Bull and Jager. I took one sip and had to fight back the bile. gag.

Gimme some good sippin' Tequila or some middle class Gin (Tanqueray). nummy nummy. cactus or pine needles, please.

The mix drink of Jagermeister and Redbull you are refering to is called a VIAGRA. Never had it myself,I don't like caffeine to much.A few shots of Jager gets me feeling good enough.

In the German language, Jagermeister means ,"Got ran over by a Tiger Tank".

Last time I had a drink of that poison I saw dead people.:eek

What's the letter between Q and S???

The answer is 'R' of course, but if you are nautically inclined, you have to say 'Arrrrrrr' like a pirate.

And 'R' is for Rum, which seems to be missing.

Love Maker's Mark and Knob Creek and Evan Williams Single Barrel and Elijah Craig.
I'll confess I haven't tried the Basil Hayden, Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace.
But where there's a will, there's a way. :brow

Having quaffed many an elixer, and having survived said to a 1/2 ton a'year; I'll keep my pie hole plugged snug with something my physics teacher taught me as an acronym: Every Good Boy Deserves Foster's. The heavy stuff puts me down like a farm animal.

I like lots of the choices but I keep drifting back to Scotch whisky, but with the disclaimer that I'll skip the blended crap.

The stuff from Islay (small island off the southwestern coast) is what I particularly groove to. It's an acquired taste that I took to immediately. And my ancestors were from the other end of Scotland???
For everything you need to know about the Water Of life, read Still Life With Bottle by Ralph Steadman. Here's what ol' Ralphie had to say about Islay, f'rinstance:
"On the island of Islay, with 4000 inhabitants on a piece of land 25 miles long by 20 miles wide, the 7 distilleries provide the British Government with 150 million pounds of duty annually. The people of Islay could, if they felt inclined, pull up the ladder and be self-sufficient, setting up their own principality, as prosperous and independent as Monaco, and screw the British Government.
But instead the money is pissed away on foreign diplomatic mismanagement and every other government slush fund, by a Westminster long gone on rhyme or reason."

But back when I was stationed in Germany I had several educational Tequila experiences. Fast forward to 2001 when I went to a Halloween party as Jose Cuervo. I need to get that pic scanned so I can add it to this before the thread dies!

Just cause so many people are talking about Patron, I had to have a sipping shot tonight of Silver , followed by an Absolut Appletini for KBasa. Luckily the commute to the hotel room was about 200 feet all by foot.

Ah the sacrafices I must make for the BMW MOA Forum.

My current fave is Ciclon. Bacardi blended dark rum with 10% tequila and a dash of lime juice. Good on the rocks, good with some juice, good with cola.
BG - ya rum drinker, you ought to try it. Arrrrrr.

That sounds good, Cliffy. Possibly dangerous-good.

My father, long ago deceased (1984) was a hard drinker, but a gentle man. He always called whiskey (his favorite) Irish LSD. :)
I enjoy single malt scotch, and have a very interesting, but very long tale to tell of my introduction to this elixir in a hotel/pub which lies on the banks of Loch Lochmond one night in the tourist off season in March of 1975. The reader's digest version is that my wife and I were on a short vacation ( I was in the USAF at RAF Upper Heyford England at the time) to Scotland. The landlord of the hotel took me under his wing on a very slow night at the pub to educate this Yank about single malts. WOW. what a memory!
I think single malts, whatever the brand, are my favorite hard beverage. :clap

Once again, the suffering I go through to do proper research to be able to answer these questions... Tonight was Macallam... MMMMMMMM

I would say though that the hard liquor has a lot to do with the company. For me to drink Chopin Vodka while everyone else is drinking Budweiser just does not work out. So if I am drinking tequila in a group, great. A bunch of us drinking some fine single malt, great....

Well you get the idea.

Jagermeister!

It's soooo good, it once forced me to eat live bait while ice-fishing!

Now that is good hard liquor!

I miss ice-fishing...

Dark rum, straight up & a cigar

especially good while lounging on a boat after a day of sailboat racing or a long day of riding

somewhere I saw a liquor preference / personality type guide

rum - adventure type

scotch - intellect

whiskey - derelict (just kidding)

it was rather interesting just can't seem to remeber where I saw it

It was the drunk Minnesotan version of sushi followed by a mustard shot to supposedly kill the taste...

These occurances were common-place with the fishermen I used to hang around with...one dare after another...

Boy, I'm getting hungry...
