The local bike shop said that Metzler had dropped the Z4 series.
I hope not because I dont plan to buy any more Z6's. I have the Z4 on the 1100R and want to get another set.
Any ideas on the status of the Z4's?

They are probably going away. My dealer has one rear...I think a 170/60 VR 17 left I noticed.
Notice the Pilot Road 2 tires. They are about 40 dollars more each list, but they have a harder center than sides, designed to last much longer, and not flatten out in the center.

Thanks.
Now that you mention it, the center is wearing flater on the Z4.

Try Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse. They have a few of the Z4's left in stock. The Z4's are very good, but I like the Z6's just as well, if not a little better. Great traction and not bad mileage, either.

Why do you like the Z4's over the Z6's? Or, asked another way, what is it about the Z6's that you don't like as well?

With the Z6, your first warning of no center tread is the steel cords showing through. Because there is no center line groove.
I like to look at the tread depth via the center line groove(s).
Thats the only reason.
I know about tread depth gauges but I am like to visually inspect the bike before each ride, including the tires.

I might suggest the Conti Sport-Attacks.. based on one set, it appears on an R1200R (which has oodles more power than an R11xx) - rear would be good for 8,000 miles or more - front more. And no cupping, which I always found a problem for the front Z6's..

They now have 2 less in stock. My r1100rt came with z4's and I was not really impressed with them but they have them listed at a price "I couldn't refuse"

Hi Iam new and have a 05 r12st just got it a month ago with 611 miles it now has 3034 and needs a new rear tire it still has the original Dunlop Sportmax D220 stp. Not as young as I used to be last bike, sold it in 97 was a R100RS, so I don't carve the corners as deep as i used to. Any recommendations? Also have follow the oil change discussion and will need to change the oil at this rate anything wrong with the Valvoline racing 20w-50 or should I stick with motorcycle oil only in the same weight. Thanks :brow

Sidenote; try to remember that "racing oil" is good short term oil, but it has nothing in it for the long duration. No anti-rusting agents, no anti-acid agents, nothing to handle fuel dilution, etc.

Dadanco:
Back in my first life (first wife-her father was a farmer in rural Georgia) my Father-in-law came up with a "good deal" on several cases of Valvaline Oil for use around the farm. We successfully blew up two tractors, a couple of Harley-Davison Golf Carts and a Troy-built rotortiller (which are practically indestructable).
I don't remember the weights or engine requirements, I was a kid, this was '77-78 time frame. But I have avoided Valvaline Oil (at all costs) since and have not blown any more engines.
Stick with real motorcycle oil. I run BMW 20/50 in my 1150 RT, but I get good recommendations on the Mobil 1 synthetic oil. --rock

What 1971 said.
Except I favor Royal Purple (MaxCycle 20W-50 engine only), wheel to wheel, diesel trucks too.
Can say enough good about it.
PM me if you want to hear my experiences with Amsoil, I dont want to start a war.
