Problem: riding down a nice road on way to work. Cruising along and engine dies/ as if I have run out of gas. I know it isn't the gas 'cause I just filled it two days ago. As I am coasting, I look down and notice smoke comining from the kill switch. I immediately turn off the ignition. I figure the kill switch shorted, but now that I took things down aways, I notice the entire green wire, from kill switch to ignition switch and back to the coil is fried with insulation burned. this is part of the main wiring harness. I am getting ready to replace the wiring harness, but want to make sure this doen't happen again. I am amazed there isn't a fuse somewhere in this circuit to prevent this. Where would be a good place to but a fuse or fusable link to prevent this. should I put a fusable link at the + battery end? Any help would be appreciated and any ideas of what else I might be getting into also. I want my bike back. Please respond with any advice.

First of all............SORRY about the misery in front of YOU............kind of relates as this happened on a tractor I use a few years ago and the pain involved going through that.............At least you should be able to find a schematic.............This was on a grey market tractor and was total misery to figure out...........

Anyway...............REPLACE the whole harness.................While disconnecting the old harness have a video camera handy to be able to refer to...........I stress video camera because one can also make verbal comments to play back about the close up view that you are focusing on.....................

As far as the cause, it is what it is.............but a fuse from the whole battery I can not address as the only fuse from the battery I have used in the past is for accessories................Dennis
