OK - I have a '74 R90s that is doing some really strange things electrically. It started in July coming back from the MOA Rally in WI. In Michigan's U.P. the bike started starting hard, as if the battery was beginning to go. The volt meter would slam from side to side when I hit the turn signals. Then, it just shut off - totally dead when I signaled to turn into a rest stop. We messed with it for a while and got some help from some locals (still owe them a gift basket or something). Anyway, finally figured that it was the battery and went to a NAPA for a new one. that got us home and all seemed well and good. I now have a brand new Westco battery in the bike.

Last week, while riding home from wk. a similar thing happened. Now, whenever I hit the turn signals, the volt meter slams to zero and the idiot lights go out. The headlight still works and a multi meter says that the charging system is working fine. The bike still runs fine while this is happening. If I shut it down for a few minutes, then start it up again, everything looks normal. However, if I just try to restart it immediately, it wont. Hitting the turn signal again while the bike is running re- triggers the problem. - All the electrics except the diode board and stater have been replaced. We thought it was the turn signal relay and replaced that as well but no luck. Could a short at the turn signal switch cause this problem? Seems unlikely to me. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

has an intermittent short. Remove the fuse connected to the gray wire and try running it and see if the problem persists. If it persists then I'm obviously wrong. Studying the wiring diagram - this looks like a good possibility.

Try this: Remove and clean the tip ends of the two 8 amp fuses in the headlamp bucket. Burnish the ends with an eraser or emery board. Do the same with the fuse holder clips where the fuse tips contact the brass terminals. Apply light coat of dielectric grease to fuse ends. Re-insert fuses into holders. Your problems may be over.

Ahh - if only it were that simple...

I have come to the conclusion that I have a blown Knuten valve that is somehow shorting out the binomial flux capacitor. :brow At this point I think we're just going to install a new wiring harness - doing a top-end this winter anyway - maybe I'll repaint the frame while I'm at it.
btw - anyone know where I can get a set of nice clubman bars? - I have seen some on ebay but not sure of the quality. Also, wondering if they may hit the tank if the bars flop over.

Thanks y'all for the ideas.
