It's been weeks since I've ridden anywhere interesting. I've cruised locally but with no real destination in mind. That ended this past weekend as a friend and I packed our camping gear and headed for Fort Stevens State Park. This park is located between Seaside and Astoria on the Oregon coast. Upon arriving at Fort Stevens we were quickly disappointed to discover they were full. Hard to believe considering the hundreds of campsites there. A quick decision was made to try for a campsite across the stree at a KOA. Yahoo, an opening! We set up camp and headed out to see the sights. We were right off the ocean so we rode any road that headed for a beach. We saw shipwrecks as well as parasurfers galore. There was a beautiful breeze that Saturday as the temperatures rose into the middle 70s.

The real reason for this one night stand was to test my friend's new camping gear. He strts his real vacation next week when he sets his sights on a ride to San Diago, CA with his father riding his Harley. It was fortunate that we checked the gear out since it became obvious there wasn't enough room for two in Warren's tent. His dad will have to pack a separate tent. Better to find out now than on the road.

All in all it was a great weekend with lots of sight seeing. I need to do more camping. Maybe next week I'll head for Crater Lake,

Nice pictures. :thumb

Thank you for posting them, I'm glad you decided to keep doing ride reports.

It's funny how "3 man" tents are just big enough for me to be confortable in.

We age, we get more stuff and sometimes we get bigger, too. Its nice to throw your stuff inside the tent, without it becoming a cramped affair. The Oregon Coast is superb, indeed and I have traveled it many times on my bikes. The State Parks in Oregon are equally great, better than most states. Your buddies ride to So.California will be really good, until they reach the southern half of this crowded state! I live in the middle(Clovis) and find the countryside up here a bit less crowded. If they have time, they should do the interior parts of S.California, as these parts have something to smile about on a bike:). Mt. Palomar and Julian are good examples and beyond. Idaho, where did you find that logo of the BMW roundell with the wings? I ask, because I have a wallet that used to have the same patch attached and it finally wore off. I still have the wallet and use it to this day. I purchased this wallet in Vermont at a trading post up there on the way to the BMW National Rally in 1978. It had the patch you are displaying:). I wish I could find another. I still ride the same bike too! 1978 R100/7, I bought that year I purchased the wallet with BMW Wings....The bike has 300000+ miles on it and I love it more, as it gets older. I sure would love to find another set of wings for my wallet, if you know! Thx. Happy Trails, Randy13233:clap

There was a patch for sale on ebay. I borrowed the picture and shrunk it down to avatar size and have been using it ever since. If you search ebay for "BMW patch" one or two of various sizes will usually come up. I wish I'd have bought the patch instead of just grabbing the picture. It was a huge patch that would stretch from shoulder to shoulder on the back of my jacket.

Sorry about the thread hijack BM.

Nice work, Bob. What's the object in the lower left picture? Part of a shipwreck you mentioned?

Rich - yes, that's what's left of an old shipwreck. I say old because some who have replied have photographed the same thing as far back as 1975. Guess it is sorta hard to move.
