This is the wrong way to fix your tank leak. I thought you windy city guys were more sophisticated than that!:nono

Naughyde won't seal a gas leak????!!!:brow

But seriously, folks. I found a NOS silber blau, striped tank in the box with the plugs still in the tap holes at Bob's. The nice parts guy, Bucky, apologized when he told me what it was. He asked what year my bike was and I said '78. He said, "Oh, sorry. The only one I've got is a '77 and it's that weird kind of silver blue color that they only used for the '77's." I said, "Dude! Do you mind if I swear? Are you effing sh---ing me?"

So I've got a brand new "almost fresh" from-the-factory tank on a ups truck somewhere.
Besides not bonking it with the seat pan, and other miscelaneous pointy meatl stuff, what else can I do to protect this beauty?

The two tank covers I have used (R75/7 and K100RS) both came from http://www.mustangseats.com/index.html a quick look at their web-presence makes it appear they no longer "do" BMW but you might ask.

I have thought about a tank cover to cover some of the scratches on my tank, until I get around to painting it. I would expect a cover to actually cause some minor abrasion scratches and discoloration over time. Once I get mine painted, I would not put anythng on it except a good could of wax.

Linda Tanner made many of the covers for the farkles used in the Iron Butt. Maybe you could persuade her to make a tank cover for you. I don't know her personally, but she did a great job repairing my tank bag (new elastic) and the cost was very reasonable.
