After rescuing my 83 80RT from the mountains of Colorado, I had to have the original gas cap mauled to get it off. Ordered a new one, but was told they are very har to get. My orig. is duct taped but I'd like more of a seal. Suggestions?
Cork, maybe?
Small minds want to know.

Try auto supply store, a VW gas cap, to hold you until you find your replacement.

It worked on my 77 R100/7.

I'm so glad somebody else knows about VW and Beemers! Yep, they both are built in Germany(of course:)) and if you can't find your Beemer part the normal way, go VW! I actually have a VW clutch "friction plate" in my R100/7'78 and its better than the BMW one, I know...Its thicker and the good old beemer /7 has the ability to adjust to it:). I bet its been in there near 200000 miles, no kidding! The bike has 300000 and counting:). I forgot what year VW had the same parts, but its out there....Its one of the older VW's, back into the 60's I believe. Randy13233. The gas cap brought back memories:). I still ride the /7 nearly every day, year round. CA:):clap

There are usually caps listed on ebay. They can get expensive. I expect the dealers still have them as well.

They are readily available from parts at BMWNA and cost around $130 with a new lock that you can install or rekey.
